“Come on Ace,” he begins. For the first time in his life, he doesn’t know what will come next, where they’ll go… But for the first time in his life, he doesn’t care. Whatever happens, he’ll remain in blissful ignorance, without anybody to step in his way, without himself to step in his way. “We’ve got work to do,” he finishes, his footsteps falling like shadows on the grass. He feels her arm in his, her warmth on him. Their heartbeats are merging, they are becoming one. And as they walk into the distance, into oblivion, the Doctor is free.
