The day Justin books his first solo show in New York is the day he realizes that New York really is everything he's ever dreamed of. Well, almost everything. Because Jesus Christ motherfucking holy shit... his first New York solo show!

He'd known it was coming for weeks, months maybe. He was getting great press, the kind of attention you can't pay for.

And then he'd been invited to a cocktail party at the home of the gallery owner and he knew it was an interview of sorts. Because art is one thing but in New York it isn't the only thing. So he was beautiful and charming and just edgy enough.

And when it happened it didn't matter that he’d known it was coming, it was like being hit by lightning. A jolt of excitement, fear and pride so strong that it was hard to stay upright.

He knew he needed to get focused, needed to start planning and painting. Because he didn't have much time and there was no chance that he wasn't going to make the most of this.

Instead, he found himself wandering the streets of New York in a haze before ending up in a bar toasting his own success with one shot after another. When he stumbled home that night he managed to book a flight to Pittsburgh for the next morning before passing out.

"flight 2165 lIbert air 11;0"

Brian had learned that the number of typos in Justin's text messages increased exponentially with each drink he had. This message was too short to really get a read on the level of consumption, but luckily it didn't matter because the message wasn't difficult to decipher and the news was good as far as Brian was concerned.

Justin's homecomings are always celebrated in the same way. The only thing that really surprises anyone is that either of them can walk when the visit is over.

Two full days of fucking and sucking clears Justin’s brain and focuses him like little else can.

Justin doesn't have to admit that he is scared shitless that he's in over his head because Brian already knows. And Justin knows what utter bullshit Brian thinks that is and it makes him feel better.

And when the last set of clean sheets are a rumpled mess and Justin has a plane to catch, it's hard to walk away but he knows everything is as it should be.

Justin is doing exactly what he set out to do and doing it better than anyone could have predicted. And for now there is nothing either of them wants more than that.
