I hear you on backing off too. I totally ignored G and writing although I did get her a dry erase writing book ( you copy the letters) She only drew on the pictures and made a point of not touching the letters and I was like cool pics.
then she started doing the letters and I was like oh cool.
Yesterday she sat inthe back seat of the car with a magna doodle asking "how do you spell Girl. boy Cat" and she wrote all of them wellish enough. But I agree that G takes to criticim like A ( and me of young) and stopos doing the stuff... so I tred lightly

That's great. She should be so proud! I wouldn't push the spaces yet. You can point them out while reading books though, and when you model writing. Sam uses one finger to make a space between words. Well, he did when he was learning. xo

In any case, that's an "H", not a "P", and the word is continued on the next line, for what she wants to do when Katie comes over... There were hints in my paragraph of text.

I think if we could truly understand why children learning to write find it so hard to sever the dot from the rest of the "i", much about human cognitive development might become clear. Or not.
