I picked up a book at the library today, Cutting Your Family's Hair, which I thought was for me but Amelia had other ideas and has been curled up with it all evening, drawing pictures of hair accessories, styles she'd like, the parts to the various natural hair products it has recipes for, etc. Then she brought this to me to send to Katie, and it's ( Read more... )

I got the first three lines, and the last. Not sure about the meaning of everything in the middle. But it's really excellent printing and sounding out of words. Very impressive.

I have no ide what she is sayig, but it's really cool.

I hear you on backing off too. I totally ignored G and writing although I did get her a dry erase writing book ( you copy the letters) She only drew on the pictures and made a point of not touching the letters and I was like cool pics.

then she started doing the letters and I was like oh cool.

Yesterday she sat inthe back seat of the car with a magna doodle asking "how do you spell Girl. boy Cat" and she wrote all of them wellish enough. But I agree that G takes to criticim like A ( and me of young) and stopos doing the stuff... so I tred lightly

I hope Katie and Melissa can come over and go to the park!! Awesome!

That's great. She should be so proud! I wouldn't push the spaces yet. You can point them out while reading books though, and when you model writing. Sam uses one finger to make a space between words. Well, he did when he was learning. xo

She knows about word spacing in books; I think her concentration is just so high in figuring out what letters to use to get her message across that she doesn't have bandwidth yet for such writing conventions as spaces or punctuation.

In any case, that's an "H", not a "P", and the word is continued on the next line, for what she wants to do when Katie comes over... There were hints in my paragraph of text.

Katie Melissa.
Is it ok if Katie came over to my house and if is okay with you if Katie has a haircut if it is okay with you and Katie. I love you Katie.
Did I get it kinda right?
Very impressive indeed. Who needs spaces anyway stream of consciousness and all that.

It's a personal ad, right? I got "Katie, Male," but then I got a bit lost.

I think if we could truly understand why children learning to write find it so hard to sever the dot from the rest of the "i", much about human cognitive development might become clear. Or not.
