I need a good way to explain Endeavor to people I don't know.

Twice last night someone I know mentioned to someone I don't know about the game, and asked me to explain it.

I don't have a ready answer to that, so when I want to sound enthusiastic about I come across as a bit doubtful.

I need a precanned social answer. Any ideas from friends out

Are you trying to explain it to gamers or to non-gamers?

My guess is usually not, but that is part of the problem, these are people I don't know. I neither wish to talk down or up in such situations.

Hmm, will have to think...

If non-gamers, you probably need to explain that it's a modern-style game, not like Monopoly or wargames.

Yeah, as one of the people who put you on the spot, I thought afterwards that it's quite tricky to sum up. Having a ready-to-go answer will be handy for when you happen to run into someone who matters.

I reckon you need to cover the type of game it is ("Eurogame" worked last night, but only goes so far - really you just need to communicate "not like Cluedo") and the theme of the game (global colonization! or something).

Good to see you by the way!

"It's basically 'The Running Man' crossed with Bowling."

Yeah you play as a colonial power in the 18th century and try to expand your empire across the globe. It has pretty art. It seems to be quite popular within the board gaming hobby market.

No it's not like Monopoly, it only takes about 90mins and you don't have to pass go.

No it's not quite as simple as Carcassonne. It doesn't have tiles and the meeples are more flat and circular. They represent ships, armies, governors, traders, and missionaries.

Civilization you say - yeah kind of in that it is a civilization style game without the need to build wonders of the world, and it only takes 90mins. In fact if you played a 7 player game of Civ and 3 of the players choose to play Endeavor with the winner getting all of the two losers cards they would be finished before the other 4 had finished the trading round.
