Things I'll miss, things I won't

I started a list a couple weeks ago of things I imagined I'd really miss about Doha -- and things I was looking forward to about the US. I never finished cleaning it up, but I figure I should post it now so I can see in a few weeks how accurate it was.

Things I'll miss about Doha:

You're right. I sometimes forget all the stuff I miss being here, but I can agree with all of the things you listed. And many of the nice things in Doha you mention I would second as well. I hope you're re-adjustment isn't too long or arduous...but I'm sure it won't be.
I imagine that soon you will be walking around barefoot in Frick park, trampling on the grass, with a big grin on your face as you hold hands with Justin, walk your doggies and push Zoe in her stroller... :-)

Welcome back.

I expect I would produce a similar list to yours if I were in your shoes, with one exception: I prefer the proportions of letter paper to A4.

A4 paper is too tall and skinny. It reminds me of the severe-looking windows on old wooden Gothic revival churches. Letter feels less cramped to me.

Oh, I feel totally the opposite. Today, for example, the woman at the AAA took my address and said, "Oh, I love that street!" The cashier at Whole Foods saw Justin's Qatar campus shirt and asked us if we knew a friend of his who'd worked there last summer. We keep having little conversationlets with service-type people. It's nice!

So glad to hear you'll continue to write, particularly about your repatriation. Look forward to it!

I'd be quite happy to never hear maam-sir again. My name would be just fine....

You (might) be interested to know that 5 women journalists walked out of Al Jazeera May 31st....not that it was reported in Qatar :-)
