We've seen this several times before - e.g.. I tried to decrypt it once but didn't have much luck.

With the number of strips we've seen this in now, there might be a possibility of attacking it with statistical methods. But I've forgotten the individual comic numbers now and am too lazy to go back through the archives to hunt them all down.

It's just a placeholder for something so terrifyingly demonic that putting the real sounds there would be dangerous. Lovecraftian horrors and all that.

As I recall it's apparently a dialect of Cthonian. Google doesn't cover that -- you'd have to check the Languages department at Miskatonic U to get a good translation.

It's been cracked. It's just a font and Jeph types out what they are saying in it.

I don't think this is at all true. I didn't realize there was anything to translate, and I'm clearly not the only one. I thought it was just supposed to look like demonic-sounding gibberish.
