We don't know who she is or where she came from, but she arrived in the nick of time. Adam and Derrick had lured one of the Machines near the ravine but it caught on before it triggered the ram. Adam was just able to find cover in the cave, but Derrick got himself cornered (again). I was on the loft across the ravine and wouldn't have made it over in time to do anything, the zipline having been snapped in last week's attacks

We were joined by a mother and her two children the other day, refugees from the most recently taken city up north by the machine's main metropolis. Erica, and her daughters Denise and Rebecca. They're all very young, I don't wonder if Erica was a teenaged mother ... ? Either that or she just has that young look about her. Either way, they needed sanctuary and protection so my humble little camp offered it. On the one hand, we're already stretching our limits here; we've got two rotating patrols at all times to help with population strains, but then, what was I going to do, deny them? Give them a pack of food and turn them east towards the next refugee camp? The Machine's activity that way has been pretty above average lately, and I half-wonder how long that camp's going to remain intact

I got to run recon with her tonight; we met up with a small patrol and I nearly froze from sheer admiration at seeing her in action. I have never seen anyone move so fluidly and with so much efficiency. She nearly doubled my kill count, and the camp agrees I'm the best shot in their ranks. I have nothing on her and the simple bola she wields. She moves far more like an animal going in for a very precise kill than any soldier I've ever met.

SEPTEMBER

We're on the move. Machines found the base. Just barely got everyone out before they arrived.

Settled, if only temporarily. Three scout droids had happened onto base. 7 destroyed two of them and went after the third. Haven't seen her since. I think everyone knows what happened but no one wants to say it.

I can't even say it here. I'll keep hoping.

Don't know what to do about Erica and the kids. We're miles from the nearest refugee camp or any other civilian holdouts. Should have sent them off when I had the chance.

Found a checkpoint for the Machines at an old farm, recon confirmed it as a holding cell; humans are there. Sending rescue teams tonight. Heavily fortified, will have to

It's been a week. I help dress the wound, when I can. She's fevered, sort of hanging in and out of consciousness. I haven't gotten a lucid response from her.

The machines' route has changed, since we took out their checkpoint. We should be safe for now.

DECEMBER

She's stabilized finally, thank god.

The camp split. I handed command over to Paulina and she took the active portion northwards to continue the fight. I decided to stay, with Erica, and her children, and to make sure 7 continues to recover. She's not quite conscious yet, the doctors have been trying to keep her sedated, considering how painful the healing wound must be.
