Hello. I just recently joined so I could have someone to talk about "QI" with (I'm an American so opportunities tend to be scarce).
I like Ben Goldacre's columns and it was nice to see him but I noticed he was fairly quiet. On the other hand, a show like "QI" can be daunting even for people who banter for a living. (John Hodgman really is a funny guy, I promise!)
I think that every episode has its own personality based on the mixture of personalities involved. So a show with Johnny Vegas may seem like a completely different show that one with John Sessions and I like that variety.
I also wonder if Goldacre's mention of uncited research is the reason why the Elves have started their blog entries for each episode. And if so, I'm glad he was on the show just for that reason.
Jo Brand is one of my favourite QI guests, so I always enjoy her episodes. She and Alan have such great chemistry. I don't know if she has a fued with Michael Winner, but all the insults were amusing.
Andy Hamilton should definitely guest more often. ♥
Honestly, I'd never actually come across Ben Goldacre before, and my first thought was how much he looked like Milton Jones (with less-crazy hair, obviously), which led me to thinking that MJ would be an amazing QI guest. As for BG, though, I agree with whoever above said that he didn't engage like Brian Cox did - he seemed to just be the token expert, without any funny lines, and I think Stephen unconsciously encouraged him to be the expert by addressing so many questions directly to him.
Oh, and I'd love to discuss older episodes after this series has finished, these posts are really fun. :)
I giggled so hard over Ben Goldacre's research zing. So many times I have decided that a fact I heard on QI is awesome and should be stored away to impress people with (yes, I am that kind of annoying twerp) and come up with almost nothing useful when I try to get more info.
Michael Winner is a horrific git. I don't know if he did something to upset Jo in particular, but the incident which made ME decide he would serve the world better as fertilizer involved him tweeting incessantly about Victoria Coren's breasts and asking why she didn't have better things to worry about when she objected.
