He found her in the graveyard.
Three days later, when the Interpol was finally tired of the fruitless interrogation and let him go.
"They let you out?" She didn't look at him, her question barely a whisper.
He nodded. "Is this..." his voice cracked a little, "them?"
They both knew the answer to that question.
She turned to him. For the first time in many days, he looked into her eyes, and found them so dark and tired and without any light.
"I..." he opened his mouth, choking with his own words. “I killed them."
The memories once again flooded over him.
The morning was so bright.
He took Parker to the planning.
The usual banters between the hacker and the hitter.
The smile in Sophie's eyes when she told him she was exactly where she belonged.
The cries when the hacker fell.
Parker screaming Hardison's name.
The gun shot.
Eliot falling into the van.
Sophie's hands trembling in his own.
The sinking feeling when they realized they wouldn't make it.
......
"We killed them. We both did." He heard her saying, after a long moment.
They continued to staring at the gravestones. No one said another word.
When the sun was almost gone and the night almost fell, she asked him. "What should we do now?"
He breathed shakily and shook his head.
She raised her hand, and touched his cheek gently.
He waited for her. He waited for her to be his compass, to show him the right path, to find a way to turn back the time and make everything alright.
But she couldn't. Not this time. This time she was as tired, and as lost as he was.
He watched her turning away, leaving him alone standing among all the lifeless graves.
He reached into his pockets, the ring box surreally solid against his palm.
He sat there for a whole night (and many other nights after that day). The ring, which he would never have a chance to give out now, was buried in front of three young thieves' graves, along with his second chance of a family and happiness.
