The waiting room is packed with idols of all shapes and sizes while Haewon and his bandmates begin getting ready. In the reflection of the mirror, just behind the stylist's head, Haewon spies on the other groups: Dalshabet is huddled in one corner and playing with their video camera, CN Blue is similarly keeping to themselves, shoving each other and laughing loudly as if to counter-act being one of the few male groups in the room. After School, f(x), A-Pink, 4minute and so many other girls run in and out of the room as they get ready, with CN Blue and X-5 hovering around the edges to stay out of everyone's way. Hyeonjin and Jinwan sit a little ways away a watch the girls running around while exchanging smiles and whispered comments. Donghyun sits to the side and stays silent, staring at the ceiling. Haewon can't tell if he's just nervous or napping, but he chooses not to disturb his friend.
Meanwhile their fearless leader is the epitome of distracted. He moves from stylist to stylist to their manager to the film crew trying to work out all of the details. Just watching him makes Haewon exhausted. When Hyunseok happens to pass by Haewon's seat, he grabs his friend by the elbow and yanks him down to sit with him.
"Relax a minute, will you?" he says with feigned annoyance. He can feel Hyunseok staring at him, but he closes his eyes in response. "Just for a minute." At that, Hyunseok relaxes beside him enough to lean against Haewon's side. Only a little, but Haewon feels the slight weight against him and smiles. With his eyes closed, Haewon can hear Hyeonjin and Jinwan talking to each other about all of the other artists. All of this is so new to them, it's hard for Haewon to remember that sometimes. "The kids are star-struck."
Hyunseok laughs, shaking Haewon a little. "Understandable. We should introduce them around when we get time."
"Whenever that is," Haewon sighs. "Who knew debuting again would be this much work?"
"We're going to make this the best debut we can," Hyunseok says, low, almost to himself, "for them."
Haewon opens his eyes and stares at his friend, who stares at his hands with knotted brows. His shoulders are hunched and brooding under an invisible but constant weight. "Of course we will," he replies quietly, putting a hand over Hyunseok's. Eyes peek up at Haewon and Hyunseok pinches Haewon's fingers.
"Don't act so tough," he chuckles. Haewon rolls his eyes and snatches his hand back. "This place is so crowded," he grumbles, looking around them.
True enough. More and more bodies begin to fill the small space and the oxygen even feels used, breathed by so many. "Want to get some air?" Haewon asks.
Hyunseok grins and nods, letting himself be dragged away to the hall as Haewon takes off. It wouldn't look good for the leader to bail at such a crucial moment; better to make it look like Haewon forced him. It isn't the first time they've played this game. They walk down a few hallways until they find a window and Haewon cracks it open. The air outside is cool and a little damp, the grey clouds above threatening. A welcome breeze drifts inside and the two of them lean against the chilled tile wall, Haewon's arm still around Hyunseok's.
"This is nice," Hyunseok comments and leans his head against Haewon's shoulder.
Haewon continues to peer outside at the growing crowd below. A few fans carry umbrellas and start opening them as the first drizzle starts. "Looks like rain."
"Rain's here?" Hyunseok yawns, his eyes closed and not even looking up. His voice is soft and dreamy, five seconds away from sleep. "Let's go get an autograph."
Hyunseok jerks fully awake when Haewon bursts out laughing, doubling over against the wall and not bothering to hold back any. It feels so good to laugh as he wants, utterly relaxed. "You idiot. The weather."
His friend blinks a few times, glances outside, and grins again sheepishly. He looks down the hall and says in the best serious voice he can manage, "We really ought to get back." To Haewon, it just sounds like pouting.
"Fine," Haewon says. He pulls Hyunseok away from the wall to lead him back to the waiting room, but Hyunseok holds him back. Frowning, Haewon looks back over his shoulder and jerks his head in the direction they need to go. "Come on."
Hyunseok is too distracted to answer. He stares at Haewon, that slightly sheepish and slightly mischievous smile on his lips. Haewon's glare falters when Hyunseok moves closer, so close that Haewon can feel his breath on him. "You're the stupid one," Hyunseok mutters, staring right at Haewon's mouth. Then Haewon feels something on his waist, and looks down to find Hyunseok adjusting his belt, which had apparently come undone. A violent blush reddens Haewon's face and he drops Hyunseok's arm and jerks away. Hyunseok shrugs and walks around him, grabbing Haewon's hand in the process. "Ready to go?" he asks over his shoulder with a smirk.
Haewon follows him down the hallway, just as he's always followed him, and just as he'll always follow him from here on.
