Anime Detour thoughts

NOw I was there on a limited badge so I didnt get to many panels, other than the ones I was on. I had a blast working with Rae, Jo, Anne-Marie and Virginia. As well as Eric and Keith and Anne-Marie's friend with the Johnny Walker Black! Here are my impressions, this is held in the same Hotel as CONvergence, but is visibly more crowded and louder. So I might get some work out of this... Downside was I got asked for a quick quote on doing the Geisha makeup for someone; the first number that came to my head was $100, but I quoted her $50 and even that was too much for her. The thing is you get what you pay for in this as in all things. I can't do a rush job on stuff anymore, and can't give stuff away either.

This is just asinine. After seeing all the work involved, they thought $50 was too expensive? What an idiot.

All the same, I'm glad you enjoyed the convention!

OK I am not sure if this means Virginia and Anne-Marie are your inlaws or not!

Indeed they are. I'm married to Anne-Marie's brother.

That anime is called Axis Powers Hetallia, and it's about the countries involved in WWII personified as cute dudes (and some girls) who are making the yaois with each other.

I'd like to possibly get you and Rei to specifically do a uniform/military costuming panel if APH stays as popular next year as it was this year. I think people would come.

I ran into a fan who thought 50 dollars for a full resin molded helmet was too much as well. Anime fans are working off their pocket full of babysitting cash, and while they'll happily put out tons of dollars for a shiny new ipod, they don't tend to think anything that isn't electrical can possibly post that much.

Enjoyed the panels. I was there as a parent of teens, and yes, I went in costume, too! It didn't seem fair to let the kids have all the fun.

I have a question - I am trying to get in contact with the guild membership because I have a job available. I am the production manager at Winona State University, and we need a costume shop manager/designer for our BA program. Can you help me get this out to the membership? I tried the guild website, but all I got were broken links.

The guild I am involved with is the D.O.O.M. squad, it's a loose affliation that has an email list and a FaceBook group. Here's a link to that, we should be able to hook you up with the right person.
