Every World Cup I've posted picks somewhere, and I could do it again now, but this time around mine just aren't that interesting. My bold prediction for SA 2010 is wearyingly few surprises. Climate and altitude nullify any home-continent advantages African sides might otherwise enjoy, so have fun watching European and CONMEBOL teams run rampant.

Well, okay, then: (A) Mexico, France; (B) Argentina, Nigeria; (C) England, USA; (D) Germany, Serbia; (E) Netherlands, Cameroon; (F) Paraguay (!), Italy; (G) Brazil, Ivory Coast; (H) Spain, Chile. Our boys out in the second round to Germany. Argentina's inevitable implosion comes in the quarterfinals, also to Germany. Brazil-Holland quarterfinal is the match of the tournament. England reach the semis. Spain 2:1 Brazil in the final. Ho hum.

ETA: Hats off to ESPN -- they've managed to find a foreign color commentator who doesn't understand the offside rule.
