>Snape had always been my favorite character, if only for standing out as the one character with any depth. If you thought Snape had depth just because you thought he was playing both sides, surely Draco has depth by virtue of his weakness and inability to commit to a side.
What the--Were we reading different books at the end there? Draco had lowered his wand when the Death Eaters had burst in. He was about to turn! He wasn't about to carry out his task. And had blundered and struggled with killing Dumbledore all year.
Maybe maybe I would buy that he was one-dimensional before this book. But look at him now--he cries, he stresses, he tries to commit an act of unspeakable evil in order to protect his family and he fails. I think he's unreservedly human in this book.
"And had blundered and struggled with killing Dumbledore all year."
Like you can kill Dumbledore that easy.
Even if you really want to, its hard to let some people in to your school with the idea of killing the headmaster and maybe anyone they can take along with them.
Yes he shows humanity (i hate that word in these contexts), but that doesnt mean he is weak or uncomitted. I am 100% sure there was atleast one nazi who didnt like killing innocents, who probably avoided it all he could, but that doesnt mean he liked jews. He just didnt want to be the one to kill anyone.
as someone else said before me, there is no sense of urgency in this book. haha, that was one of my favorite things about it.
The task he assigns Harry during a private lesson was unnecessary (seeing as Dumbledore knew anways). And Dumbledore was just a plain idiot most of the time. I think he knew that his death was inevitable, and through those lessons, was passing on everything he knew about Voldy to Harry. I'd elaborate, but I'm tired.
First off, I completely agree with your assessment of Snape. He was really the only character that has really been thoroughly filled out. With the possible exception of Ron, but not Hermione, JKR doesn't go into the relationships much. They just BOOM happen. I was especially disappointed with the Harry/Ginny relationship. She doesn't develop Ginny throughout four books, gives her a boyfriend in the fifth one, and then drops a few lines about how good she smells in the sixth. And this apparently is the basis of their all-consuming passion. What the hell do they DO that Harry feels has been so magical? We don't get any sense of what Ginny is like at all

one thing that i think would be really cool was if they (by they, i mean she (she meaning J.K.R.)) expanded on the whole griffendor, slitherin, ravenclaw, and huffelpuff story arc. we got some of it in book 2, and then there are the times when we here the sorting hat talk about them, but other than that, we know very little. personally i would be interested to know about ravenclaw and hufflepuff, since they are hardly ever mentioned until the huffelpuff goblet/cup thing that was a horecrux or whatever. also, i have a sneaking suspition that JKR might be really lame and have it turn out that harry is actually the heir to griffendor or some bullshit like that. maybe not though. I also think that harry might either use Godric Griffendor's sword to kill voldy, or maybe knock him through the death curtain in the ministry of magic. or maybe he'll just do the killing curse. its also possible, and would be really interesting if Longbottom ended up killing voldy. and everyone was wrong about the prophesy, but of course, she couldnt do

Draco seems fairly comitted to a side.
And I wouldnt say he has any weakness.
