I like that approach. I'm really not one to stand up there and yell. Totally not my style. I've done it as a sub, and it makes me very unhappy to have to.
And 34? My goodness! I can't even imagine. I think I might have had some classes that were near 34 kids...*lol*
This probably makes little to no sense, and I have probably bored most of you to tears, if you’ve even read this far.
Are you kidding me? This is the best primer I can get. =P This time next year I'll be in your shoes, only with social studies.
Just keep your chin up. These kindof issues are issues at any level... I had to do a community college teaching demonstration...and..ugh. Dont even get me started. =P
Our generation is probably the last hope any generation has of making future generations care about ANYTHING. (insert sara historical psycho rant) the media is breeding an uncaring society. The fact that you CARE about your students and are TRYING to make them interested in what they're learning...is in fact...greatness. Dont' let them decieve you by their teenage angst.
I'm glad I can somehow help you and offer you a meek little primer. Hopefully it'll go smoother for you next year. *lol* But I'll look forward to seeing what your classes will be like.
We should confer over these thoughts sometime. Share horror stories and the like...I'd like to hear about your college demonstration! Sounds amusing... ;)
oh man suz, this is really hard. i do not envy you this one bit, but i am v. glad there are good bits too- kids sound like half angel, half petulent demon. never fear!! they will learn you are serious and awesome and for real before you know it. i have complete confidence in your ability to lay down the law and clue them in that once you've invested in them, they ain't screwing around any more. hugs! hope tomorrow goes better ^^
Oh, there are good kids, indeed. Some that I really like cuz they're awesome, and some that I like despite being lazy bums. ;) Thank you for your support and your confidence. It is much appreciated, lil Eskimo! *hugs* When do you go on your trip for Spain? I can't wait to read about it and see pics, so you'd better do a full posting. And say hi to Pecan for me! =)
:D 'm goin to malaga on april 9th, spending some time there and in granda, and coming back to norwich on the 13th.. i seriously cannot wait. gonna be done with a few papers by then too (woot) v. excited to see spain with pecan, shuga, and curry, who you may recall. there WILL be pictures ne'er fear! *pi luff*
Oh man, Suz, the plagiarizers are coming after us this semester! You've already gotten great advice, and you knew what you were doing from the get-go, so I really don't have anything to say.... Just wanted to say that this plagiarism stuff seems to be hitting us all this semester, so revel in your company :)
From a personal standpoint and keen memory of HS, it wasn't the teacher I didn't like, it was the work.
A lot of kids don't do it b/c they don't want to and don't really care about the consequences.
And fun assignments are VERY relative. For kids who are miserable at school or not interested in the subject material, fun to a person who loves English and writing is not the fun they are looking for. Fun assignments to high schoolers are typically ones that involve no work, minimal work, or candy.
But really, it isn't you. Some people are beyond help and maybe a little scare is what they need.
You'll be fine. You are still just a student teacher so you hopefully have a good support system.
Yeah, I realize fun for me is not necessarily fun for them. But I would also think something different would be better than boring old lectures, dittoes, and the like. Guess I was wrong. I do totally bribe them with candy, though, and that always seems to work well. Nothing like doping my kids up on sugar for a good time. =)
I'm glad it isn't just me. That would make me terribly sad. And thank goodness for support systems! Thanks!! =)
