Feminist Steps in a Sexist World

As I was writing my livejournal entry yesterday, I began to realize that for me, watching slasher films has always been a feminist experience. But there are a lot sexist qualities to them as well. If you think this is true, you're watching the wrong shows. Game of Thrones is one example (if problematic, imho), but there are MANY others.

Go watch Westworld - a 70s robot western action movie turned into an incredibly well-written, well-acted marvel of intelligent sci-fi, which also happens to be a not particularly subtle story of female robots completely rejecting the patriarchal bullshit they've been fed, rewriting their programming themselves to reject the servile, exploitive roles they've been given, and rising up to overthrow the system that's held them captive (including the well-meaning ones who think they're just trying to protect them).
