Oh my. I think your choice of the story being seen through the POV of Harry was just brilliant. And the family dynamics were chilling true to my own life...my father was an emotionally abusive alcoholic who made part of our life hell yet he could be fun and charming and a good father at other times...memories good and bad (since he passed almost four years ago the bad ones have retreated and the good remain). Having had cats all my life the story of Shadow..and the pain of his loss...rings true and deep.
And yes, Sherlock is absolutely a cat and John being his "shadow" is truly Karmic. I had to wait until the tears subsided to comment.

Aw, so glad you enjoyed! I really wanted to get the family dynamic as close to real as possible, so I'm very pleased to hear it rang true for you.

I've lost some feline family that I miss very much, so writing John's grief wasn't difficult at all. Cats are necessary for a good life well lived.

Thanks! I was a bit iffy when I started writing it, since, well, cat reincarnation fic. So it makes me very glad to hear that people ultimately found something rather moving about it.

Harry forgot most of what she could about that day. The one thing she couldn’t forget, the thing she would always remember, was the sight of her little brother huddled on the pavement, sobbing his eerie whispering sobs, cradling his dead cat and slowly, gently stroking him from head to tail, as though it would do him any good. I started sobbing here because of two things: 1) It was so beautifully written and amazingly heartbreaking 2) It parallels the Fall so well that I thought for sure you were going to go there and I lost it thinking about Martin's incredible acting in that scene and holy crap I'm just having feels all over this comment, but I wanted you to know because it's always gratifying as an author to hear that your story can provoke such intense reactions and jaysus I need to stop crying ( ... )

What a lovely comment! So glad you liked it...when you're writing, you always hope someone will enjoy the hell, the heck, or even the living bejeesus out of any story. RESULT. :)

This is a brilliant story. It's the second one I've run across where Sherlock's been a cat/a cat has channeled Sherlock, and I think this one is even more brilliant.
