Character Information
General
Canon Source: Princess Tutu
Canon Format: Anime
Character's Name: Ahiru / Duck / Princess Tutu
Character's Age: Unspecified - she looks to be around twelve or thirteen.
Conditional: If your character is 13 years of age or under, please clarify how they will be played. Although a good part of Princess Tutu deals with innocent themes and situations, there’s also mature themes and occasional violence in the anime. A few examples of this are Ahiru nearly being beaten to death by the ravens, Fakir being stabbed by hundreds of ravens feathers. Several characters have visions of their own deaths, which are typically bloody. While Ahiru would much rather not have to deal with the problems that living in a city rife with crime bring about, she’s equipped to handle it. She’ll definitely be stressed out by it often, but the same thing occurred in canon; she was constantly stressed by having to return Mytho’s heart shards to him and defeat the monster raven. She doesn’t have that much physical prowess in her normal form, but for the most part she’ll try her hardest to stay out of the factions, so fighting won’t be as much of a problem for her as it would for other characters.
What form will your character's NV take?
Rubber ducky, you’re the one~ The back opens to a keyboard, and the eyes function as a camera.
Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities: Ahiru can not only transform from a duck into a normal girl with the help of a magical pendant (I was told by a mod it was fine for her to have the pendant upon arrival in the city) but can also change into Princess Tutu as well. Tutu shares Ahiru’s body, staying dormant until Ahiru needs her to appear, and possesses wisdom, grace, and confidence Ahiru herself doesn’t. Tutu can also control plants to some extent, and jump to incredible heights, along with other extraordinary physical feats and the ability to influence the emotions of others to a small extent. She can change into Princess Tutu at will, but turns back into a duck when she says ‘quack’ and turns from a duck to a human when she gets wet - even a drop of water will do.
In-game, she's contracted with Kyubey. This contract makes her much more invulnerable than normal people, as well as stronger, She cannot die unless her Soul Gem is destroyed - she'll simply need to be healed from any damage she sustains. The specific powers that she gained from the deal are physical and emotional healing: when she dances as Tutu, she can heal wounds and make people happy when they were once sad. However, in return for this, she takes on their physical and emotional pain for a short time.
Weapons: No weapons, but her pendant is a magical item.
History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History:
This should cover it; if not, let me know!Point in Canon: Mid Akt 25
At this canon point, she has recently found out that her pendant is the last heart shard. However, this is the same pendant she needs to remain human. After Mytho is freed from the raven's blood and Rue is imprisoned within the raven's stomach, Ahiru tries to take the pendant off so he can fight the raven with all of his heart. However, the latch won't come undone. Under Drosselmeyer's control, she goes to the lake on the outskirts of Kinkan Town to drown herself. Soon, Fakir finds her, and they dance a pas de deux while he reassures her that he will never leave her side, whether she's a human or duck.
Conditional: Brief summary of previous RP history. She arrived in the Port in early November of last year. After her one month of free rent ran out, she moved in with Grell, which didn't end well. He tried to cut her in half with a chainsaw. A few weeks afterward (because moving out of an apartment you share with a murderer isn't at all necessary) she moved into the Phantomhive manor .
In February, a few days before her birthday, she was kidnapped and had her heart stolen by Xehanort and Ansem. During her period of heartlessness, two of her friends, Alois and Ciel, were abducted by a cult. She went with several other characters to save the boys. Shortly after this, her heart was returned, and she was the super happiest.
Then, due to an event, her powers began to malfunction. During several conversations with friends, she turned into a duck, which tends to be a dead giveaway that something is very not normal, but not having to lie all the time was actually surprisingly relieving. Not that she'll ever stop.
In late June, she got hit by a car as she was crossing the street and nearly died. Luckily for her, she has friends in ghostly places who can turn back time and change the past. She also has at least one friend who she feels comfortable talking about stuff like this with. Unluckily for her, though, it doesn't make dying any less traumatizing. Good thing she's good at hiding how she feels, or it might have taken longer to act okay again!
Partially motivated by her guilt over the car accident and her need to make sure that her friends were alright even if something happened to her, she contracted with Kyubey in return for the power to keep her friends safe and happy. Unfortunately, that was basically the worst decision ever. About five seconds after she made the contract, she found out it screwed with her soul and forced her to fight witches. In addition to this, she told the absolute wrong person about the deal - Gabriel went and told the entire network about what had happened in order to try and reverse it, which failed spectacularly. D R A M A.
In late August, Madara created magical cherry trees. Contact with the cherry blossoms forced a person to submit to their surpressed urges. This led to first kisses and a huge amount of fluff, because even the things that she's surpressing are completely adorable. And then September rolled around and I had to drop due to time constraints.
Character Personality: Ahiru, despite how she may seem on the outside, is anything but a normal girl. In fact, she’s not even a human girl. In reality, Ahiru is a duck, who is able to turn into a human due to magic, which both helps and hurts her. It allows her to be near her love, Mytho, who is a prince escaped from a fairy tale. The price for being near him, however, is an onslaught of identity issues. She often laments that she’s ‘just a duck’, wishing she could be a real human without the help of magic. She also feels like because she’s only a duck, she’ll never be good enough to have her feelings returned.
This leads to another very important part of Ahiru’s personality: she’s prone to thinking she’s not good enough, for her friends or herself. She evens goes so far as to think she’s useless or unhelpful at the beginning of the story. However, along with the ability to transform from a duck to a normal girl, she also has the power to change into Princess Tutu. Tutu is essentially Ahiru, but with much more physical adeptness and confidence, although Ahiru considers herself a different person entirely. This is more because of small amount of self-worth, thinking she couldn’t be as useful as the princess. Tutu is also the only one who can help Mytho regain the pieces of his heart, which he lost to seal away a monster raven.
The biggest reasons Ahiru doesn’t value herself is that she is a duck in reality, and unlike Tutu, she’s clumsy, both in her words and actions. She’s prone to falling over, getting lost (in thought as all, which usually ends up in her yelling out an especially important thought and shocking everyone), running around in circles, waving her arms around when she’s flustered, stuttering, blurting out embarrassing thoughts, along with speaking loudly and nonsensically when she’s flustered. She idolizes people above her in some way, often wishing she was more like Rue, a girl in the advanced ballet class.
She has a tendency to overreact to any stressful situation, and she doesn’t respond well to even the slightest pressure at all. In an early episode, she pours water on Mytho’s hand to help clean out a cut, and then begins to panic and leads him around the town looking for more water because the water she used to clean his cut was water he was going to bring to Rue. Even when she makes a small mistake, she’s very apologetic, especially to people she holds in high regard.
Despite her many insecurities and self image problems, Ahiru is a very cheerful girl when things are going right for her. Although short term situations can make her overreact to an extreme degree, she can handle situations that are stressful but go on for long periods of time fairly well. She’s kind to most people, even when they disagree with her or cause her problems. Even though Rue tried to stop her from getting Mytho’s heart shards back, Ahiru still considered her a friend. Even Fakir, who was also trying to stop her from getting Mytho’s heart back but in a much more aggressive way, gets decent treatment from the girl. She openly calls him rude and a mean person, but she shows genuine care for the boy when he’s in dangerous situations, and offers to team up with him to help Mytho later on.
She cares for her friends a huge amount. It doesn’t take very much for her to consider a person her friend, stating once that Rue is her friend after spending only a few hours with her. She may be a fairly shy and meek girl, but she also cares enough for people that if need be, she can easily be brave for them. She’s cheerful around anybody when she first meets them, and she’s also very naive in regards to people; even if an individual is very suspicious, there’s a good chance she’ll trust them. This trust and caring even extends to people who mean her harm, sometimes, but she usually has to form a relationship with them before the harm comes.
She’s also prone to bouts of depression that she brings on herself due to low self-confidence. She’s constantly second guessing herself and wondering if she’s doing the right thing; despite this, she has a tendency to meddle in things she doesn’t know much about if she thinks it’ll help somebody she cares about be safe and happy. Before she knew what giving Mytho back his heart shards would mean, she began to return them anyways, to ‘bring back his smile’, because she had fallen in love with him. She regards this as more important than anything else. However, at the canon point I've taken her from, there's a growing conflict inside of her: to return Mytho's heart and lose him to the story, and then return to being a duck, or to act as thought she can't return the rest of his heart and keep him with her?
Conditional: Personality development in previous game: Many facets of her personality are basically the same. She's still kind, cheerful, and selfless. However, she's slowly begun to realize that
her wellbeing really does matter to multiple people. This has led her to become
slightly more easygoing about the subject of her non-humanity. If she sees that other people who know her secret still treat her the same, it's a little easier to accept it herself, even though she's far from confidence. Additionally, she's realized that
she needs to be more careful. She's grown more used to horrible things happening in the city, though she's still shocked and devastated by many of them. She's learned
to continue her optimism while still being aware that bad things can and will happen if she isn't careful. Character Plans: I’d like to see how she interacts with the other characters in the game, and also see how her pacifism holds up in a dark setting like this one.
Appearance/PB:
Here! Writing Samples
First Person Sample [A few seconds of fiddling with the NV - she's only using one hand - and then the feed comes on to show a wide and familiar smile. The picture is dipping up and down, as if the girl in question was skipping. She is; her braid, in the background, is steadily bobbing up and down. Every few moments, visible in the corners of the video, a bird swoops close to her before returning to the skies. This goes on a while before she begins speaking.
She's also dripping wet, though she takes no notice of the fact.]
Jeez. The Core really can't make up it's mind sometimes! I've never been gone this long, though. I wonder what happened while I wasn't here... Hey, you should all tell me what's been going on! I haven't talked to most of you in a long time, either. So it'll be good for both things! I just hope most of it was good stuff.
[She pauses.]
You know, people talk a lot about how bad the Core is. And it does do a lot of really horrible stuff! It takes people away from their friends and makes them stay here even if they don't like it, and it can pick times that aren't very good to take people from their homes. It's sad for most people. But sometimes, it picks really good times. And it helped me meet a lot of nice people, too! So maybe I'm a little glad, especially since I know I'll be able to go home sometime. I wouldn't be that angry if I got to stay a little longer.
[A beat.]
I guess that's all I wanted to say! Oh, and Gilbert and Alois and Fakir [(whom she doesn't know has gone home)] and everyone - I'm on my way home right now.
[The feed cuts.]
Third Person Sample [The tumble and the sudden descent into breathlessness is all too familiar; what's altogether unfamiliar is the abrupt change from water to fresh air. Out of instinct, she leans forward and coughs, gasping. But them, she'd had no trouble breathing before, had she? The only thing that had really shifted was worlds.
Standing up shakily, she brushes her hair out of her face. With a sigh, she looks up towards the sky. As soon as she sees the greeter headed towards her, she waves, then runs in the opposite direction. She doesn't have much need for explanations, and she would rather be home. Home. With every step she takes, with every thought, she begins to smile. The memory of that dance is still fresh in her mind, and with it, the knowledge of what she has to do. There's no longer any doubt that things will work out back home, and now, she can spend a little more time with the people she cares about.
She turns corners around familiar buildings, down the streets. After nearly slamming into several angry passerby, she pauses long enough to pull out her NV. She feels like cartwheeling, for all the adrenaline flowing through her. Of course, she'd likely end up with a cracked skull if not for the ring currently fitted around her finger. With that thought, she slips her Soul Gem off, looking at it fondly. If back home she had helped Mytho regain his heart... Maybe now she could help protect people from witches. She can't fight, of course, but maybe watching over the others as they fought would be enough. A new story until she could return home, in a way. Sliding the ring back onto her finger, she slows to a skip and looks back to her NV, pressing the button that'll begin the feed.]
