It baffles me that they didn't talk to you about getting a dog. That's kind of a big family decision.

I don't own a dog, so I can't help with that :/

It's great to hear from you again!

From what they told me, my parents and sister went to a monthly adoption event at a PetSmart that's a few minutes' drive away, just to start looking at some potential pets. They were really attracted to Harper because of her temperament -- and Harper was drawn to them! And since a lot of others said they were interested in adopting her, my parents decided that if they didn't adopt her right then and there, someone else definitely would, and they didn't want to take that chance.

My folks know I hate it when things like this are foisted on me all of a sudden, and they've been pretty apologetic to me about the whole thing. I completely understand where they're coming from, so I'm not angry at them at all. But still, I know I'm going to be just a little bit bitter for the next few days. :/

It's always great to hear from you too! I don't always comment on your posts as much as I should, but I definitely read all of them. ;-)

I think my mother is going to end up being Harper's command person, considering she listens to her the most. Which is going to be hard, since she's the only one of us who works during the week. :/

My family has been taking Harper outside every couple of hours just so she can get some fresh air and exercise, but I really like your advice about having her around other dogs and people, and I'll be sure to bring that up. And we do plan on going to Petsmart for obedience and crate training classes, so I believe that's all taken care of. (Her crate already is in the corner of the mud room, so that worked out well!)

I'm sorry I didn't respond to your comment any sooner, but thank you so much for your advice! I really appreciate it, and hopefully it'll save us a lot of trouble! :D
