Anorexia

I still haven't seen this advert around... but I think it's the right thing to do to show what such a disease can bring someone to.
We live into our own sheltered worlds and sometimes we close our eyes not to see what we have around because it can hurt.
You can read this article if you're interested but it's in Italian, anyway you can search for the ( Read more... )

That picture is creepy, I cannot understand how some people can see such pictures as inspirational.

Just look around on Lj communities and you will find A LOT of people who would gladly take that woman as a model. I already had a fight with someone who was on my friend list because she put a pic of some celebrity, who was so skinny to look 90 and about to die, writing how nice she looked and how lucky she was to have the collar bone so visible. roll eyes.

I don't understand such thing... I should admit that we live in a sick world.
Being thin and sportif for example can mean being healthy, but being skinny means being somehow ill... do they want to be ill?

I don't think they want to be ill, it's simply their mind and vision of things that is distorted. Think when you see someone who is really really fat, you will probably think he's ill and he should maybe try to diet a bit..when anorexic people see any normal people who is not skinny they see something disgusting and someone who has no contro at all about himself. I think a big part of anorexia is about trying to be perfect beyond every limit and trying to be perfect leads to trying to have full control over any thing in your life and the easiest thing to control is your body.

But I guess the main point is that the world is sick.. just ask to some girls who is their role model..I don't have one but if I had she would be a fighter woman, maybe someone who fought for women's rights, a scientist or an explorer or maybe a brilliant and visionary artist/writer. ask the same to some girls and they will probably reply "le veline" or "paris hilton"..

So we should go little beyond to understand what's the real reason for this. Why does this world want skinny show-girls to be the model of beauty and perfection?
I can understand that controlling your body can give you the feeling of being somehow powerful and I know anorexia involves mental disorders, but what I can't understand is where it actually comes from.

That's exactly what the message is, that anorexia doesn't have much to do with fashion, that it's first of all a psychiatric illness.
Yes, an anorexic girl can feel the competition between her body and Isabelle's, and want to be more like her. That's the problem.

I know this can be a problem. But I still think than such a harsh image can show to girls who aren't into anorexia yet what its consequences could be... and maybe prevent them from becoming like Isabelle.
Isabelle isn't showing herself as a model of beauty; she's showing herself as a victim of a serious illness. This is the message that should pass to the masses.
But I know that some people won't get this...

I think the problem is also in the fact that this is not some sort of campaign for anorexia awareness, this is still a fashion advertising. So the message looks overall pretty tangled to me.

Sadly, we all know that nobody does anything for nothing...

I felt nauseous the first time I came across those eating disorder encouraging communities here on LJ... Perhaps you remember that my sister used to suffer from anorexia. I'm not sure if she's recovered, but I really, really wish she will never go back to that...

There are some things which just make me want to close my eyes, turn my head, look away.

I don't want to look to those communities because sometimes I don't want to see, I don't want to look at the world because it makes me feel nauseated, too.

I don't really know what's the real reason behind such an illness, I think it's not all about beauty but I hope that showing its consequences can help preventing some people from taking this path. If only it can save one girl it will be worthwhile to look at such a shocking picture.
