“Whatever you do, just don’t fall in love with me”.

Tatsuya quirks his eyebrows like Junno is mistaken in some way, “who said I intended to?” he asks with a cunning grin as he walks away from the now moving train.

Junno smirks before chiding, “because… I’m that good”.

And then, it's seven years in passing and they are like this: sickeningly in love with each other.

“Didn’t you tell me not to fall in love with you?” Tatsuya mocks through small kisses, the orange flames of the Okinawan sunset as their backdrop.

“I did”, Junno replies, leaning forward to press his forehead affectionately against Tatsuya’s, “but, didn't I tell you about Plan A?”

“Plan A?”, Tatsuya queries, his eyes widen in curiosity, “do tell”.

Junno smirks, “finding someone to love”, he replies, capturing Tatsuya’s lips, and after a contented sigh, he pours out his heart and soul in sweet sealing kisses.

“Life is a funny story”, Junno thinks aloud, sipping from his steaming cup of black blue mountain coffee. It’s one random Friday evening at one of those popular but not crowded sidewalk cafes. The orange sun has not yet gone in, giving a golden highlight to the length of Tatsuya’s hair comfortably knitted betwixt Junno’s doting fingers.

“Funny and interesting”, Tatsuya agrees, a bittersweet smile tugging at his lips as he shifts his head to meet his reflection in Junno’s brown eyes.

“Yes. Interesting”, Junno again thinks aloud, “interesting how we now seem to get along so much better”.

Tatsuya leans across and takes a sip of Junno’s coffee, but only scrunches his face in discomfort at the bitterness, yet he takes another sip, maybe a gesture of endurance he thinks, “I almost had you, Junno”.

He pauses his hand in Tatsuya’s hair, his fingers twirling the short locks around and around in fondness, “no. You had me”.

“No. I was late”.

“No. The train was four minutes early”.

“Then why didn't you wait for my proper answer?”

"Because...". Guiltily, Junno’s eyes flit to the sun that's finally meeting its horizon before blinkingly disappearing beyond the skyline of high-rise buildings. Dusk ghastly falls. Dragging with it a bitter, regretful smile scratching itself over Junno’s demeanor, his fingers slipping down Tatsuya’s hair to gently caress the nape of his neck and across the litheness of his shoulders, and at last, he replies with an onerous thickness in his throat, “...I’m an Idiot”.

That was seven years ago. Seven years since that train rolled out from the station, and only eight months now since fate secretly flung them back into each other’s path.

Arguably, they’re happily married.

Regrettably, married not to each other.

Tatsuya gulps down the rest of the coffee that has long gone cold, grimacing with the bitterness tightening his throat, “life's a fucked up story”, he remarks aloud.
