Sengoku BASARA & Date Masamune

Just caught up with Sengoku BASARA: The Last Party and it was a fun watch despite not making much sense at certain parts. Sengoku BASARA's charm really rests in its spirit of never taking itself too seriously and the unabashedly ridiculous spin on Sengoku history and character heroics. That said, the main draw of the anime for me lies in Masamune ( Read more... )

Thanks for reminding me to catch up on the Basara movie. Actually I feel like watching the anime all over again because there's never enough of OYAKATA-SAMA! YUKIMURA!! Those two are definitely my Basara OTP... lol~

And since you mentioned MoB... I also remember that Kuwabara-sensei admitted in the Mirage of Blaze Travel Diary that she's actually a big fangirl of Masamune/Kojuurou--iirc they were her favourite pairing of the Sengoku period and she ended up going off on tangents about them, I found that quite amusing. Also the fact that Masamune was supposedly only 159cm tall, just 1cm taller than myself. I guess it goes without saying that she has a strong thing going for master/servant relationships... ^^;

LOL I didn't know Kuwabara-sensei was such a big fan of Masamune/Kojuurou; I haven't read the Mirage of Blaze Travel Diary ^^;;

Masamune was only 159cm tall?? I'm much taller than he was XD Was there something in particular about their master-retainer relationship that made them sensei's favorite? ^^

Hm I don't have the book with me now so I can't check exactly, but iirc it was the fact that Kojuurou was not only a retainer but being more than 10 years older than Masamune he was more like his brother/mentor, especially since he was by his side since Masamune's childhood. According to sensei's research(?), he was also supposedly the one who took out Masamune's eye. Apparently Masamune was suffering from some eye illness as a child that would eventually make him go blind completely (or maybe even kill him) and so his father ordered his retainers to gouge the affected eye out, but nobody except Kojuurou had the guts to do it... well something along those lines. That's about all I can remember off the top of my head now. ^^;

Ah I see. I came across several different accounts about Masamune's eye that I couldn't tell if it was Kojuurou who gouged it out or Masamune himself ^^;; (though I think the general consensus is that his right eye was infected due to a bout with small pox).
