Noooooooooo, everyone knows you NEVER should get into a web series right at the beginning! It's too big of a commitment! It can only frustrate a person! At this point, I am RUINED for anything but binge watching.
I saw your post about the male character in the doctor's office. I just about died.
BTW, the fact that Tauriel is the Hobbit movie is the only reason that my mother convinced me to see the second one. (That, and I love her).
Everything else you said was totally on point. Esp about how we can't have nuanced conversations about ladies, because we have to keep defending their right to exist and/or not be shat on by everyone. BUT DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY BITCHY THINGS I'D LIKE TO SAY ABOUT LAUREL LANCE?
Also, this is your most recent lj post?!?!?!!?!!?!!?!?
(A little background info) Good god, that all came from when I saw an artist acquaintance who I otherwise liked well enough drew and posted the shittiest art calling Tauriel a Mary Sue and totally pointless, blah blah etc. Then justified it later by saying "Well, I'm okay with female characters as long as they're good." And then I ascended into pure rage and spat some acid all over the place. Aaaand then she blocked me. Oops

I AM GLAD. I wrote that and thought "hmm, I wonder if this is too much sass", because I had a lot of angry posts yesterday, but this reassures me that it was, in fact, the right amount of sass.
Also, I need to say: I did see the third movie, and it made me so angry, even though my bar is as low as it could possibly be. And what frustrated me most is that they had a lot of really interesting components in place, and were positioned to maybe potentially examine and even critique the source material, but each time, they stopped just short of doing so. And then on top of that also made it worse by adding some pretty atrocious textual transphobia/transmisogyny and homophobic language to cover the subtextual misogyny that was already there. So it was like trying to take a step forward but instead taking two steps backward and then just falling on a bunch of spikes
