Ah, this one is just packed with more angst then you could ever want. Not only that, s/he's not very good at being angsty. This fic is set in the Azumanga Dioah [sic] fandom. Comes complete with an obvious Marty Stu vampire.
Azumanga Dioah: Nick at Night
Disclaimer: Some great entity named Kiyoko Azuma graced the world with Azumanga Dioah. This ain't me. I really wish I had Sakaki though, she's ultra-hot!
Nick never wanted to be in this place.
It was bad enough that he was born a vampire, being unable to die. He never wanted to be a creature of the night. He didn't enjoy biting hapless victims to drain his need. But he had to. He needed them for his sustanace. It was a very cruel fate, something that he never wanted, but had. It tormented him deep inside every time he bit a victim. He disliked biting anyone. Nick was a teenage vampire.
He was a creature of the night.
Physically speaking, Nick is two meters tall, with shoulder-length ebony-black hair, and super rich, deep, penetrating brown eyes. His body was trained with the top athletic forms. Flapping one's arms whil ea bat does require a lot of energy. However, Nick's nerves were about to be tested harshly. He had to face something that was even worse than garlic to him.
A new highschool.
Nick had to summon all of his courage to stand in front of Miss Korosawa's class and stand there in the gym outfit with sunglasses on. Nick couldn't take them off lest he burnt in the sun. The other students greeted him as he bowed to the class.
"Hagimemashite, minna-sama." Nick said in Japanese with a very thick Czech accent. Nick was born in Prague, and grew up there. However, when he turned six teen, he accidently let someone see him bite one of his victims. He and his family had to flee the Czech Republic and move to another country. They chose Japan.
"Ooh... A new hot hunk for us!" Tomo said as she got cose to Nick. "So what's your name, hot stuff?" Tomo asked.
"Uh... Nick." Nick replied. He was quite uncomfortable with Tomo getting into his personal space. Must be some weird Japanese cultural thing, Nick reasoned. After all, these people invented Hentai. It didn't make him feel better, however. Tomo was giving him.
"Oh wow that name is so kewl! My name's Tomoka but you can call me Tomo." Tomo said. "Say, what do you look like without those sunglasses?" Tomo wondered aloud.
"My eyes are very sensative, I can't take off the sunglasses." Nick said.
"Oh come on! I bet you have cute eyes!" Tomo said. She started to reach for his sunglasses, but he dodges her.
"I said no! Are you Japanese always like this?" Nick asked.
"Alright, that's enough. Tomoka, step away from that cute guy." Miss Korosawa said. Tomo was disappointed.
"Aw! I wanna see his eyes! Tomo" said.
"It's time to work out, now get to stretching!" Miss Korosawa said.
After class, Nick went to his next class. It was homeroom with Miss Yukari.
"Well, I see that you've met Nick. Nick is fromthe Czech republic. Nick, take the seat next to Sakaki-chan there." Miss Yukari said. Nick did so, and sat next to Sakaki. Sakaki was probably the only girl in the class not instantly smitten with Nick's smouldering good looks; it tiok her about 2 seconds to fall in love. She really wanted to say hi to him, invite him to study with her, but there was something that was holding her back. Does he like me? Will he pick me over all the other hot babes in theclass? What can I do to make him want me? Sakaki thought. She merely gave him a glance and went back to what she was doing. Now that's interesting. Nick thought. She doesn't seem to be like the other girls, Nick thought of Sakaki. She seems genuine. She seems real. She seems... Desirable. I'll bet all the guys want her. What could I possibly offer her to chose me overthem? Nick thought. I wish I could just stop things once, just once, and set them so that I could do things right just once. I could set it so the girls all didn't want me, I could make it so I didn't have this stupid curse of needing blood. There I go again, whishing for things I can never have. I can never be normal. I can never grab the things I really want. I can never be really happy. I f I were to reach for things, I would just fall on my face. Nick thought. He knew he couldn't ask Sakaki out. No, that would cause too many problems. Life for Nick was just too complicated. He wanted a simple kind o lige. You can't always get what you want.
School let out and then Nick was walking home when he spotted Sakaki walking ahead of him. She spotted the gray cat that terrorized her neaeby sleeping. Sakaki then reached out for it... No! Don't do it! That cat will bite! Nick tought. He rtied to shout but the words stuck in his throat. He could only watch in dispair as the cat firmly latched its jaw's upon Sakaki's beautiful hand. Sakaki quickly pulled away, but the cat came with her. "Ow" She said! It hurt like hell to her. Nick was saddened that he could do nothing to prevent the letting of blood.
Oh, yes. Blood. The thing that a vampire wants the most. The thing he saw was his heart's desire... But he coldn't just take it. He couldn't seize Sakaki's warm, delicious blood. He didn't know why, and it tore his mind to pieces inside. He shouldn't feel like this. He couldn't feel anything though. He was numb with shock over seeing Sakaki hurt like that. Her face was splattered with pain as she managed to wrench her hand away from the cat . But wait. She wasn't his lover. She wasn't going to rush to his arms for comfort. Why should he feel anything dfor her? Why should he care? Sakaki merely wrapped her hand in a pice of cloth and went on. Nick was at a loss for words, or actions.
That evening, Nick was outside flying around as a bat. He may have been up in the air looking down on things, but it really didn't comfort him. He didn't feel any better flying, knowing that sometime, he must land and attack someone. He would have to hurt some poor soul that he would randomly encounter. Someone he had never met before. Someone who boren him no malace. Someone who would be just innocently walking below, and he would have to attack. He dreaded drinking someone else's blood, but if he didn't, the pain would be much worse. Yes, the pain... That feeling where nothing is right with anything, and Nick knew that arid land all too well.
He saw his victim fro that night. It was Tomo. She was returning from a party where she danced and talked and had fun. Now he was going to make her miserable. Nick swooped down and turned human, hitting Tomo on the head. "Ow" she shouted! Tomo was stunned enough that she did not see Nick's fangs until they entered her throat. Tomo screamed in pain as Nick sucked her blood. Once he had his fill, he erased her mind and then bandaged her puncture marks. Sure, he was a vampire, but that did not mean he didn't have a heart.
"Forgive me, Tomoka. I have to feast..." Nick said as he turned into a bat and flew off.
The next day in school, Tomo was late to Miss Yukari's homeroom.
"Huh. I see why it's so quiet now. Tomo isn't here." Miss Yukari said.
Good. Maybe we can learn without her interrupting her, Nick thought.
"We might actually get some learning done then." Nyanmo noted.
"Good." Chio-chan added.
"Well then, let's start today's lesson." Miss Yukari said.
I want to learn, Nick thought. I want to make myself better. Education mut be my only escape from the hell I'm in now. I want to escape from this hellish prison of my lief and become something else. Anything other than a vampire, Nick thought.
It wasn't until a week later that he had to hunt again. That night, Nick few around as a bat. He then saw Sakaki in her room. She had left the window open a nd was busy brushing her hair. Nick flew in the open window and turned human. SAkaki immediately spotted him and dropped her brush.
"Nick..." Sakaki started.
"I'm sorry, Sakaki.." Nick replied as he bared his fangs. Sakaki froze with faer. She knew something bad would happen, but she couldn't stop it from happening. She couldn't prevent this terriblel misfortune from occuring. Sakaki wished she could move; but she couldn't. Nick desparately resisted the temptation to bit Sakaki. Unfortunately for him, the desire for human blood was too great. Nick stuffed his fangs inside Sakaki's neck. She screamed quietly. She never really had to scream before. She was a big girl, even when she was young. Sakaki passed out as Nick withdrew from her. He then bandaged her wound and erased her mind of the experience. Nick left Sakaki, dreading completely what he had had done.
"Nicholas! Did you feast tonight!?" The grating voice of his mother shouted at him.
"Yes mother." Nick replied.
"I don't believe you. You're nothing but a pathetic excuse for a fampire!" His mother said. "You're just as lazy and as shitless as your father."
"I did, mom." Nick said, knowing full well there was nothing he could do to convince his mother that he had just bit the one woman who could have turned his life around. Mother felt every word from Nick's moth was a bold-faced lie.
"Fine. Starve and die. See if I care." His mother said. Nick merely trudges back to his room, but he knew there was no solace there. There wasn't no solace nowhere. He had nowhere to go, nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. He hated Japan. He hated his life. He hated himself.
