Been reading science journals lately and I notice a theme developing. Science is on the defensive. It's like a major asteroid has just missed the world that is scientific inquiry and people are scanning the heavens for the next threat. Defeating Intelligent Design still does not solve NOAA's denial and active censorship of the data supporting ( Read more... )

Science is in this position because the federal government has been canceling grants to scientific pursuits that don't support what the white house is trying to sell. There are scientific advisors to higher levels of government ready to tear their hair out!

Someone has decided to use science to prop up their agenda. All scientific inquiry that doesn't support said agenda is ignored.

This is sad! Scientists, good scientists, report their findings. It isn't a good ole boy game where you aren't supporting the team by reporting unsettling findings. That people should be kept silent or unfunded because their field of study is religiously inconvienent reminds me to much of putting Galileo under house arrest for suggesting the planets didn't move around the earth!

Great way of putting it! Galileo is under house arrest. This kind of thing can't last, though. The pendulum will swing back eventually, but a lot of damage will be done in the process. The current administration needs hard science in place to continue to create and maintain all those nifty weapons and new gadgets to spy on people ( ... )
