Pictures of Rio, Day 1

Dec 22, 2011 20:02

I went to Rio last Friday the 16th and took a million pictures. Here is a small sample of my first day there.

The view from out hotel room, as we arrived at night.

And then we went out for dinner at this open-air restaurant in Copacabana. Very good!

View from the pool on the roof.

View the next morning...

Look! The Corcovado!!

Walking...

And so we got to Copacabana...

Copacabana Palace.
designed by French architect Joseph Gire and inaugurated in 1923, it is considered the premier hotel of Latin America, and is a Cultural Patrimony of Brazil.

The "Dry Law" cow. Don't drink and drive, kids!

A street market a little ways away from Copacabana Palace

These are bikini tops. Should I be surprised? I think not...

We stopped for a rest at the Rainbow Bar/Pizzaria.

There were a number of sandsculptures like these along the beach.

Lagoa da Tijuca

We went to the Planetatium but it was too dark to take pictures. I snapped this one just as the sun was exploding, and it sucks but I liked it anyway lol

So as we were in the planetarium, it started raining hard, and by the time we made it back to Copacabana the streets were flooded and the inside of our windows were so fogged up we couldn't see anything. By some miracle we made it to a parking garage and there we stayed until the rain passed and the water level went down enough to walk to the hotel.
