Not to take one side or another, but for the record the article does state that he attacked an officer and took his collapsible metal baton. So he did have 'a weapon', one that could be hypothetically deadly in certain circumstances. Not arguing whether these circumstances were or were not right, wrong, deadly, not deadly.

Yes, he had a stick...and two others had sticks...and they had a lot more in numbers...

To shoot someone dead to avoid a potential broken bone or two is not a satisfactory solution.

A baton does not necessitate the use of deadly force.

BTW, happy early birthday.

I'm with you. People who act like this shouldn't be acting for societies safety.

The baton could have done more than break a bone or two, especially in the hands of a potential PCP-head who is super-crazed. A crack over the head could kill.

But, I agree that 3 cops should have been able to patiently keep the guy from hurting anyone else and eventually get him under control.

My guess is these cops are lame locals who are not used to dealing with these sorts of things. If these guys were really fascists, there would have been another cop shooting in the past 5 years. But I could be wrong.

Anyway, the cops deserve whatever punishment comes their way. The guy didn't deserve to die. But, most importantly, the whole thing needs to be digested and understood.

And thank you for the birthday wishes! We'll see how it goes. Right now I have some conference calls and not a lot else scheduled. Oh, and Tae Kwon Do class. Hopefully I will still be employed next week... not that I love my job, but I need the income and I'm worried that this Friday will be the last day.
