I just accepted the spot at [Delaware]//[am] declin[ing] the ones at [George Mason, Rutgers, Connecticut, Illinois State, Arizona State, Kansas, North Texas

I realize that, in normal circumstances, this is the case. But considering I commuted about half the distance between U-Del and George Mason twice a week when going to UIUC, it seems like it will be about the same to commute once a week. I think living in part of the country where you have to drive two hours whenever you want to go to a big city makes a two-hour commute seem like a normal, easy part of life. PLUS I COULD TAKE THE TRAIN!!!
Also, as I mentioned, the Georges Mason are a half hour or more apart anyway. If we wanted to be on the East Coast, this was about as close as we could be.
Besides, c'mon, why are you complaining? Now we can go eat Ethiopian food together on my commute!!
What a shame you didn't go to Rutgers, since if you did I could then tell you that there would be no way in hell, even if I did go to grad school, that I would do it at Rutgers! Oh well, I'm sure I will find another WICKED BURN to lay on you at some point.
I feel saturated by it.quarexApril 29 2008, 23:59:00 UTC
Good luck! Nobody even lives in Delaware, so there is no way to make fun of it!!
Rutgers was probably my third choice. It was the only other thing close enough to make my plan to live in one place half the time and another place the other half make sense. Plus, Larissa is there, bringing the Goat-Spiel reference to a whole new level.
I am imagining a scene in the WESN studios ca. 1996 where someone says HEY DREW, WHY DON'T YOU GO GET A DOCTORATE IN DELAWARE IN ABOUT 15 YEARS? and how everyone would think that was so very funny since Delaware clearly wasn't a place that anyone would have believed to exist and half the people in the room would have assumed that you would have mauled them to death well before 2011.
And this is why we are kings.quarexApril 30 2008, 00:02:45 UTC
Yes, that scenario is rather easy to imagine. It probably would have been about 15 minutes after the Official Rob Winchester Mention, and 29 minutes before the Kroger Run.
I like going to Delaware particularly because I specifically mentioned, when talking about where the professors at good schools come from, something like "yeah, sure 90% of the faculty at the best schools come from the other best schools, but then there is always 'random guy from the University of State You Forgot Existed." I CAN BE THAT GUY! Well, not in the sense that I will be a professor anywhere elite, but in the sense that nobody knows what Delaware even is.
Why did you never consider a doctorate, anyway? You already knew TOO MUCH!??!?
