He passed by crowds of people smoking and talking and laughing outside the pubs; a few of them seemed to recognize him, probably from the sketches and daguerreotypes that sometimes made it into the articles, but no one spoke to him, and he made it home without incident.

A candle had been lit in the bedroom, nearly burned down by now, and Brendon's carefully-unpacked belongings were now strewn all over the room. "Someone's been into my stuff," he said.

"Not really," Brendon said, sounding excited. "I mean, I still haven't got it quite right, but if I can work out the problems I've been having with the springs, I think it's going to work. I'm going to do a test flight with them later this week."

"I wish Pete had never told you about his stupid fucking dreams," Brendon said. "I'm sick of you acting like the ground is going to open up underneath me."

"It's not like you'd actually give a shit if something happened to me," Brendon said, turning on his heel and heading up the stairs.

"Yeah," he said. "Dreams are weird." Brendon made an agreeing sound and shut his eyes again; Ryan followed suit, letting the sound of Brendon's breath lull him back into a relatively peaceful sleep.

Then a beautiful bird
Soared into my life

It flew straight into my heart
He was trembling, Ryan noticed. "Come here," he said, moving as much as he could without putting any weight on his arm, trying to get closer to Brendon. It didn't take much coaxing; Brendon closed his eyes and let Ryan kiss him until they were both breathless and exhausted.

The day is coming when you'll have to think of it

Brendon started to say something and then stopped, looking exhausted. "You know what? This is - I don't even care if my family disown me. This isn't worth it." He took the wedding band off his finger and, after a moment's hesitation, tossed it as far as he could before storming back into the house.

"Ryan Ross," Brendon said, biting back a smile. "Are you asking me to marry you? Because that ship has sailed."
As soon as I saw Hawksley Workman's name on the track list I knew I was going to love this mix, and love it I did! :D This mix was so atmospheric; unlurkster mentioned that she picked songs based on their musical compatibility (rather than lyrical) to various parts of the story, and I think it really shows, even if I think that the lyrics go excellently with the story. I feel like I'm repeating the comments I made about my other mix (mostly I am just thrilled to have received not one but TWO glorious mixes!) but I really fell in love with a bunch of the songs I didn't know, and I'm so, so happy with this mix.
