Brief QuarterCon recap

How good was quartercon? It was so good that I haven't updated in over a week!

Briefly, my beauteous and oft-praised jungle_goddess and I did the usual stuff on Thursday (the 19th). We grabbed a quick lunch with spo00on and tarpo at Stanley's, a cafe near Jackson Square we'd never tried before. Charles rather smoothly got our server Jacqui's phone number. After dinner at Acme Oyster House with a bigger group, and draining a Magnum Hurricane at Pat O'Brien's with an even bigger group, we went to One-Eyed Jack's for 80s night.

Friday morning we grabbed a quick breakfast before the Abita Brewery tour (which was terrific, as usual, and I'm glad I reserved the bus for an extra hour). Then, after a quick visit to the postal emporium to pay for shipping some merchandise back home, we sent everyone to entertain themselves while we readied the suite for the party. That went quite well, we thought, lasting only about 70 minutes past its scheduled end time of 11:30. I tended bar, and have even more respect for bartenders now than I already did (and I had quite a bit before). Thanks again, bronxelf_ag001, for your fine remote DJing. And thanks to the three young ladies who flashed their breasts at me. It's good to be the bartender.
:-)

Saturday was more relaxing. I joined sharkbait, sb_pyrat and Linda for brunch at Court of Two Sisters. Connie, Momma Goddess, crystalgee, nuveeena and Charles went to a spa party arranged by victorine at Spa Atlantis. I walked in and around the Quarter, doing a little sightseeing and definitely not visiting any happy ending massage parlors. Nope, not a one. Early Saturday evening, a bunch of us went to Ralph & Kacoo's for dinner (it's on Toulouse, and another place we hadn't tried yet). Later Saturday evening, a slightly different bunch of us grabbed cabs to the new Rock-n-Bowl facility. Great band playing, but SO LOUD! After a few hours, we headed back to the suite and went out again to Pravda (which we hadn't visited before) with whipman, t_rex, Charles, and Rob. Gwen was already there (she and Bryan recommended the place). A nice venue to sit, drink and talk, which we did until we headed back to the suite.

Sunday, of course, was the 12th Annual Jungle Goddess Sunday Champagne Brunch. This was particularly good for two reasons. First, because Le Meritage (the successor to Dominique's) doesn't do regular jazz brunches, this was a special catered function, and we had the whole place for ourselves. And second, the food was generally considered better than the past couple of years (at least based on the comments I received). After brunch, many folks were hanging out in the suite. I went out for a while to see the Mississippi, and many others went to the Po-Boy Fest. Then I joined Jeanetta, Andrew, and Linda at Yo Mama's for burgers (Crystal, soundwave106, Rob and someone else whose name escapes me [SORRY!] came along, too). Finally, we ended up at the hot tub from around 8 PM until around 10:40.

Monday, sadly, we headed home. And I missed New Orleans as soon as we left.

Our thanks to all of those already mentioned above, plus logiphage and Amelia, dizzdvl and Ashley, Bryan, blackfeatherdjr, timberwolfe and her boyfriend, txcajun and his sons, assassin_kittie, everyinchofme and Karla, tragicwhore, Meredith and Shirley. And my sincere apologies to anyone I didn't mention. All of you helped make it a great weekend!
