First of all, I'm glad to hear that your consult went well and you felt at ease with the surgeon. Bummer about the price tag, though that's pretty standard for surgery. Health insurance is going to change quite a bit over the next few years, and you may find that you have access to good public benefits in another couple of years. If you do not feel comfortable with that time frame, however, I would suggest looking at alternative means of financing the operation. Is there a fund that supports transgender individuals who require top surgery to achieve optimal mental health? Could you raise some of the money in a more grassroots kind of manner, like putting the word out to all your friends and getting small donations (like $10 or $20) from folks? Hell, I'd donate.
No, meaning, for whom I would be willing. Like, the pretty lady who also commented on this post. She doesn't need an identical service, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't provide it, you know?

"I would only ask people for whom I would be willing to provide an identical service."
Of course, that leaves out all the people who don't need an identical service from you. Why such a drastic limitation?
