A better day

Today Friend P, the Lovely Goddaughter and I went to the Bus Depot Markets for their 'Celebration of Wool'.  We got there early which was just as well, because it was very swiftly awash in Women Who Make Things.  There was some really lovely stuff, but I was very restrained and bought only a $10 dyeing kit, which included 100g of sock wool, and a ( Read more... )

The guernsey sounds great. I'm looking around at the winter wearables that I have after last season's chuck-out and it's pretty thin on the ground. I know I'm sitting here in shorts and t-shirt as I write this but it *is* the second weekend in May and I'd better go find something warm to wear soon or I'll be frozen over.

Hmmm. I don't think I can promise getting to you this winter, because the next cab of my rank has to be a jumper for me, since we've already had one -4 night and parts of my anatomy will no longer be attached if I don't have some more warm clothes, but I'll see what I can manage. I'll need some measurements from you: chest at widest point, length for jumper from nape of neck and arm from underarm to wrist.

No matter, next winter will be fine. I'll get those measurements next time I'm near a tape measure. Can I measure it from a jumper that I already have?

Well, I'm itching to work with this wool (as opposed to you itching to wear it) so you never know. But it will be quite a big project. If you've got a jumper that fits you well, that will be ideal. Traditionally, ganseys are worn quite snug, but I'm happy to go with a looser fit if you'd prefer that. The only tradition I don't want to muck with is knitting in your initials - to identify your corpse when they pull you out of the ocean. OTOH, I suspect you might have defied tradition by learning to swim.
