As most of you are aware, 55 of the last 60 weeks of my life has been as an expatriate. Most of this experience has been shaped almost entirely by my status and upbringing as a red-blooded American bad-ass. Well folks, said status has just been shaken a bit. That's right folks, Ned Petrie is now a Dualie ( Read more... )

Liberty is still not a certifiable hottie. But I was close to tears after that last line in the episode where she says I've never needed help with anything before. I can't BELIEVE she's prego. You forgot to mention that Degrassi became the coolest thing ever when Jay and Silent Bob "do Canada" in a series of episodes. I'm quite jealous of network Degrassi... alas, I get to catch it on the N here in good old America.

I still can't believe you saying Carson ISN'T a tool. But I agree, the show is pretty freaking decent.

Wow, O Canada is YOUR national anthem. Congrats!

Yeah, I haven't regularly watched Degrassi in a year or so, so this whole J.T. knockin' up Liberty and selling drugs to support his baby momma is seriously out of nowhere. I didn't even know they were dating. You're right, Liberty is the only one that's not a certifiable hottie, but once she has that baby she'll be the hottest mom on the show out of default.

Really, it surprises me as much as you that I am actually praising the work of Carson Daly, but then again, maybe this praise is only because of how bad he used to be. Its not the first show thats been good because of Carson, let's not forget how great TLR was back in its 99-00 heyday, but he's less of a tool now. Maybe its because the show's in LA now.

Liberty?!?!?!? I mean I know I have CTV too, but damn. I haven't seen Degrassi since the days of Craig choosing between Manny and Ashley. and welcome to Canadian citizenship. My passport makes me look like a serial killer too. And my OHIP card is coming in a matter of weeks.

We all knew that the writers were gonna bite the bullet and get one of the characters pregnant, and they made it LIBERTY, with J.T. as the father(?!). Crazy!

By the way, Craig chose Manny, and I'm not even sure if Ashley's on the show anymore.

So what do I have to do for OHIP and the Social Insurance and stuff. How long does that stuff take? Can I get an off-campus job without this stuff?

I have no idea about social insurance... but for OHIP this is what you do- go to an Ontario Ministry of Health building (the one in Toronto is 777 Bay Street, Suite M212) and either fill out the forms there while you're waiting or fill it out in advance at http://www.health.gov.on.ca/english/public/program/ohip/ohip_mn.html... )

Is that seriously all it takes to become a Canadian?? I suppose I understand why the Canadian government wants my siblings and mine information since my mom is applying for citizenship. Wow, that's really awesome. Anyway, congrats on being Canadian!!! Woot!

Yup, that's all that they needed to know. Basically, if a parent is Canadian the kids are automatically Canadian in the eyes of immegration. So if your Mom gets citizenship, see what you have to do to get one of these card thingies. Even if you never use it, its just convenient to know that you can pretty much go anywhere north of the Rio Grande and set up shop. Basically if I commit a felony in one country, I can always fall back on good ol' other country.

Have you read The Partly Cloudy Patriot? It's the first Vowell book I've read and I dug it. I hope to read more in the near future.
