The sun breaks over the horizon just as Kibum breaks from his rest. He sits up, rubs the sleep from his eyes as the sheets slide down to pool at his bare waist. Beside him his lover stirs and he secretly wishes he would just stay asleep, at least for a little while longer. He cherishes every moment they spend together, before Jonghyun is tugging on his shirt, straightening his collar. Before he's returning back to his bed. Kibum wants Jonghyun all to himself, but it won't happen.
Tears prick at his eyes and he's quick to blink them away, but not quick enough. Jonghyun has rolled over and caught him and his large gaze tightens.
"Babe," he whispers, reaching out a rough thumb to rub at Kibum's cheek, "I promise, I'll do it soon."
He hums in reply, because he's heard this before, has been hearing it since they started their affair two years earlier. Jonghyun really means his promises, at the time. It's just, as soon as he returns to his arms though, he forgets him. Jonghyun will never leave Jinki, not for good. Kibum's just one of his passing fancies.
Kibum bends over, pressing butterfly kisses all across the bridge of Jonghyun's sharp nose and then up to his eye lids, which are shut tight in a pained expression. He hates that he's the cause of these feelings.That he makes Jonghyun, his love, feel so heart broken. Kibum knows he's being selfish, demanding him to choose one of of them. He knows that and yet he can't help but dream at night of a time when Jonghyun will be able to lie in bed with him without a thought of anyone other than him.
"I love you," he says softly and it's the absolute truth.
Jonghyun smiles, reassured. "I love you, too," he says while leaning forward to return the sweet kisses, "I love you so much."
Kibum nods his head, because he completely believes and trusts Jonghyun's words. That's why he had fallen for the writer. Jonghyun always speaks from his heart, beautiful words that can be turned into a song and have the sweetest melody. Words that leave Kibum's heart aching.
The alarm on Jonghyun's phone beeps and they both pull away. Jonghyun looks guilty as he shifts and his feet hit the cold floor.
"I have to go," he says with a heart broken voice.
"I know," Kibum answers, trying to hide the agony this all too familiar scene puts him through.
Jonghyun dips his head as he gathers up his clothes. "I wish it weren't like this," he speaks with a sigh, "I promise I'll do it soon."
Kibum just smiles, bittersweet. "I know, baby."
And they'll repeat this scene, Kibum knows, for the rest of their lives, or at least until Jonghyun finds anew past time. No matter if he's never as important as Jinki is to Jonghyun, Kibum will always love Jonghyun from the bottom of his heart and no one can replace that.
