3 weeks...

Umm, so I start University in three weeks... Somehow it felt SO much further away about two days ago.  I'm not so much frightened anymore, just nervous and anxious about all the independence this is going to entail.  I mean I already am pretty independent, my parents have in no way coddled me, but knowing that my mum won't just be at home for me ( Read more... )

It's hard not to over-think something like this. It's fear of the unknown. Humans normally don't like change - has something to do with the old survival instincts, I think.

I don't blame you for wondering what's going to be - I would be, too. It's a pretty big deal, going away to college. But I bet you're going to have a wonderful time!

I wish you tons of luck, and much happiness, in your first year at school!

Thank you! I am really looking forward to going, sometimes the worry just sort of overtakes, so thank you for listening and being understanding as I fret!

No problem - feel free to vent/worry/grumble anytime you want. That's why we're all here!

Starting university is incredibly exciting. I remember arriving at my halls of residence and I was so nervous. But as soon as I went into my flat and met two of the girls who were also moving in I turned so positive - both of them were amazing. Another 3 came later and we all (well ok 5 of us) got on like a house on fire. Two of them are still amoungst my best friends in the whole world.

University is kind of where you make your own family. The people you spend time with and make friendships with will be part of your life forever because you all shared those first few years of independence.

Freshers Week is crazy! First year is a skive!! And uni is the best time of your life.

Enjoy it!!!

Btw - what are you heading off to study? And at which uni? (if you don't mind sharing that)

Thank you so much, hearing that it's not just you that is/was scared makes one feel much better... ;) For a long time meeting people was one of my biggest fears and I think I am slowly getting over it and hearing happy and positive (and honest) stories like yours helps relieve that anxiety!

And I don't mind sharing... I am off to The University of Warwick to study Politics With International Studies. My poor, lazy brain....

Sounds like an interesting course. My flat mate did International Studies with French and she loved the course.

Hope Freshers Week is a blast!!!
