so I'm having a bit of a conundrum going on here... Right now, Chantel and I have three cats and one dog. I would like to get another dog to train (with the help of some professionals) as a therapy dog for myself ( Read more... )

Jessa, I know you don't want to hear it, but I agree with your roommate that three cats and two dogs would be WAAAAAY too many pets in one house. I know you love them, but I really think you'd be doing them a disservice because you can't pet/play with all of them at once.

Further, if you're planning on really training a therapy dog, that's a lot of work and it's a whole lot different than teaching to walk on a leash, to sit, to shake a paw... I think the less distraction your therapy dog would have going on around him/her, the better and more effective the training would be.

Do your homework - there's nothing stopping you from finding loving, wonderful homes for these animals. Besides you could always ask the new owners if they'd mind if you either came by to say hello every once in a while, or emailed just to see how they were doing from time to time.

Just my two cents.

I'm glad to hear you're feeling a bit better. That's good. Keep working at it, Sweet. ♥

I-I know, dude. That's what I was saying in my entry. We've been living fine and comfortable with three cats and one dog, but we think getting one more would be too much. So, we're looking to rehome some of them.

Also, I will be getting the help of a professional trainer for my therapy dog. I know it's a lot of work-- I already have one dog, yeah? Raised her from a puppy.

I know you're just tryin to look out for me and I really appreciate it, but sometimes I get the feeling that you're kinda... scolding me =/

Believe me, I understand what you're saying. I also know that you have a big heart, and if you had the capacity to do so, you'd have a giant ranch with dozens of them to care for.

I know you've been working with Bliss. But I also know that it's a different kind of training. While not exactly the same, M's uncle used to train police dogs. **smiles** I saw the manual; it's huge.

I'm not scolding you, and I apologize if that's the impression you're getting. It wasn't my intent. But you were asking what other people thought, and I was giving you that. If I come across as maybe too...I don't know...direct, then I apologize. I tend to think very analytically, so sometimes I can come across as not feeling. I'll try to not do that in the future.

Sorry; if you'd rather I didn't say anything, then I'll just keep my opinions to myself from now on. It's not my intent to upset you further, and if I'm doing that, then I'm doing more harm than good.

Yeah, I have done a lot of research, though. I know what's required, and I have Heather and Rachel (my trainers) to help me.

I do really appreciate your advice, auntie jennie <333 I just sometimes feel as though I'm being scolded, but I know that can be as much interpretation as anything else ^^;

It helps to know you don't intend to be scolding <3 Thank you for letting me know.
