Aila: *is sitting in the cafe, staring quietly at her order of cheesy bread. It's been sitting there for quite a while and it's almost cold*
Queen: *comes in with Elyssa on her hip, hoping to get some warm food for them to eat and spots Aila immediately* Hey there, Aila. You're not going to eat?
Aila: *startles slightly and looks up at Queen holding Elyssa* Oh...Hi, Queen. *brightens a little* And look who's with her! *waves to Elyssa to see if she'll wave back* I didn't even realize that anyone had brought it to me. Wanna sit?
Queen: *smiles as Elyssa babbles a 'hi', smiling in Aila's direction* Yep, she's with mommy today. The boys are going to hang out today. *turning back to Aila she nodded* Yeah, sure. We did come to eat after all. *takes a seat next to Aila* How have you been all this time? It's been awhile ...
Aila: I'm...*starts to say 'fine', but thinks better of it* allright, really. I think. Sorta. *continues making faces at Elyssa and smiling*
Queen: *looks at Aila with concern, letting Elyssa giggle back at Aila, babbling a 'fummy' here and there* You're worried about Jacques, aren't you?
Aila: It's that obvious, isn't it? But...yeah. I spent a year looking for him, and not a trace. No notes, no one's seen him...I didn't know where else to look so I just came back here, hoping and...*her voice trails off*
Queen: *quite sympathetic, she smiles sadly at the younger woman and reaches out to embrace her with her free arm* For whatever reason there is, he might be just held back somewhere. It's a dangerous world out there, but he can take care of himself. He'll be back, I'm sure. Jacques often surprises all of us.
Aila: *leans her head on Queen's shoulder* I hope so. I just...*tries to put things into words*...I just hate this feeling that I'm losing him all over again. Not when it took us so long to get back to one another the first time around.
Queen: *frowning, she shook her head* Boys are just really difficult sometimes. You just have to be patient with them, no matter how annoying it might be sometimes. *she squeezes Aila's shoulder lightly* If you love him, don't give up on him.
Aila: *nods* I'll do my best. I'm just...happy to be back home. The road's kinda lonely. *politely asks the waitperson to bring her another order of cheesy bread* But enough about me. How are you? Where's Ivan? What have I missed?
Queen: Good. I'm around whenever you need me as well. *orders some pasta and chicken for her and Elyssa* I've been all right here. I did miss you and the others and still do, really. *shifts Elyssa in her lap* Ivan is with Nash right now. He insisted on some boy bonding time.
Aila: *eyes widen in a face that is a cross between surprise and disbelief* [Nash]? No way! Nash strikes me as the sort of guy that finds himself weirded out around kids and puppies. Are we talking about the same Nash?
Queen: *laughs, very much tickled by Aila's expression* I know. It is very hard to believe but he's actually pretty good around kids. He still doesn't like dogs, not after what Koroku did to his socks back in the war. *smiles softly then* But he is very good with the twins ...
Aila: Wow...I guess I learn something new every day then...so if Nash is babysitting, what happened to Graham?
Queen: *sighs and glances down at the table* He's gone. He just vanished one day and hasn't returned. He's probably ... gone for good ...
Aila: *now finds it's her turn to put her arm around Queen* ...if Jacques isn't gone, then neither is he. *nods determinedly, and then looks at Queen* Maybe he's just being a difficult guy. *hopes to make Queen at least smile a little by using her own words a bit*
Queen: *smiles at Aila* Thanks, Aila, but ... Jacques is from this era. Graham is not. I ... think he was returned to when he was from. *shakes her head* For the sake of my kids, I had to move on.
Aila: *nods slowly* I'm sorry to hear that happened to you. I liked Graham, and he was really good to you and the kids. And moving on...*giggles, in spite of herself* If it had to be anyone, it may as well be Nash. He used to act like he had the biggest crush on you. *chuckles*
Queen: Yeah, I am too but there's nothing I can do about it. *smirks* Oh, believe me, it wasn't just an act. *glances away slightly* And it wasn't completely one-sided either. At least, for the most part.
Aila: o.O You had a crush on him too? Wow...now I would understand if you had a crush on the Captain, that I would get. But...just wow. As long as he makes you happy, then it's all good. Heeeeeee just better not mess this up. *smiles sweetly*
Queen: *raises an eyebrow before shaking her head in amusement* Maybe I head an inseey weensy crush on Geddoe too but that was some time ago now. And trust me ... *smirks again* Nash understands that if he screws up, I will kick his ass.
Aila: *smiles as the waitperson delivers their food* I'm glad you haven't changed a bit, Queen.
Queen: *thanks the waiter and grins at Aila* I'll always be the same, kids or no kids. I've spent too many years as a mercenary to be any different.
Aila: Speaking of which, what's happened to the rest of the 12th?
Queen: *sighs again as she takes a small forkful of pasta and begins feeding Elyssa* Ace headed back to Harmonia awhile ago and Joker ... *frowns a little angrily as his name falls off her lips but doesn't say much more*
Aila: And Joker...? *senses something amiss here*
Queen: ... *eyebrows furrow into an angry glare* He and Geddoe got into a huge argument - a fight even - because ... Joker had a problem with Geddoe's choice of ... partner.
Aila: *is a little stunned by that, and takes a moment to choose her words* Wow, that's...um...*pauses again* I know that he and the Captain have had some real 'discussions' in their day, but...*shakes her head, sadly* Nothing that would cause them to come to blows or ruin their friendship. That's a shame.
Queen: It still pisses me off to this day. When you're friends with someone, you support them no matter what. You don't let things like that get in the way. *smiles a little as Elyssa nods, as if in agreement*
Aila: Amen. So really, the 12th as we knew it is gone.
Queen: Unfortunately, yes. Geddoe quite the Defense Force after all.
Elyssa: *coos* Unca Geddy!
Aila: *cracks up* I never thought it would happen that he would quit. When he told me that, I did tell him that if he goes freelancing, I'd be more than happy to go with. Gotta stay busy, after all.
Queen: *smiles proudly at Elyssa before smirking; she'll have to take her to Geddoe so she can greet him herself* Well, he's not exactly Harmonia's biggest fan so I'm not really surprised. I wish I could join you all but I've got Elyssa and Ivan to protect now.
Aila: They can always be mercenaries like we were. We'll teach them to shoot with a bow and arrow and swordfight as well as we do. *smiles brightly*
Queen: *smiles but shakes her head* At first, I was planning to raise them to follow in my footsteps but the more I think about it, the more I want them to live the normal, peaceful life that I never had. To grow up with their parents at home and to choose their own paths for themselves ...
Aila: And an 'Unca Geddy' to play with. *giggles helplessly*
Queen: *grins* Exactly. And they have an Auntie Aila and other uncles and aunties as well. They won't be lacking in attention, that's for sure.
Aila: That's true. *watches Elyssa making faces while she eats*
Elyssa: *picks at the bowl of pasta and throws it across the table*
Queen: Elyssa, stop that! *takes her hand out of the bowl and holds it away for a moment before resuming feeding her* Sorry about that Aila.
Aila: Oh, that's okay. Thanks for all your advice, Queen. I really appreciate it.
Queen: *smiles* Anytime. And if you ever need anything, don't hesitate to stop by. Ivan tends to be more behaved than his sister.
Aila: I'll keep that in mind should you ever ask me to babysit. *grin*
Queen: *smirks* As long as you remember that Elyssa is like her mother and Ivan is more like his father, you'll be well prepared.
Aila: Elyssa's like mom, Ivan's like dad. Got it. *finishes the last piece of cheesy bread and stands up* I should get going - I had wanted to stop by the infirmary and see if I've missed anything in there. Don't forget, I'm back available for sitter duty! *giggles*
Queen: I definitely won't forget. *smiles* Go ahead and make your rounds. There have been quite a few new people to arrive since you left. You might be able to make some new friends.
