If you don't plan on seeing him soon, and it's not feasable to make plans, you have to do it over the phone.
Unless you can relatively easily see him soon for a reason other than to break up, you'll have to do it another way. You can't drag him out just to break up, that would be a waste of time and effort on both your parts. The best and really only option is to call him.
