I agree with him in that you shouldn't feel guilty about not donating to Heifer Int'l. I hope he does address your topic suggestion later, since he didn't in his response to you; I think economic privilege is definitely something to think about/be sensitive to when giving donations in lieu of actual, tangible gifts (especially to a child!).

I hope you all are well! Nasty bugs aside, of course.

Sam on day 5 of 7 and 10 days of antibiotics, respectively.

Adam coughed himself awake this morning. I may make an appt for him Friday, if he isn't better by then.

I've got an appt tomorrow, annual blooddraw for the asthma, but I may encourage them to think abt antibiotics for me, since the phlegm is starting to have vintages and a peaty aftertaste...

...is it abt economic entitlement? i've always been worried that i was a greedy little kid, with no sensitivity... but economic entitlement makes it sound like my offense was less grievous...

Oh dear lawd. /waves magic healing wand ineffectively

No, I don't think you were being greedy. I mean, you were a kid being a kid, and being made painfully aware of what you didn't have. I think well-meaning adults should be sensitive to that. But I also think we make waay too big of a deal over presents and who got the latest what, and in general there should be a shift away from materialism (and I know you feel me on this), but yeah. Context is important too.

i actually had a little epiphany yesterday that maybe since every day of my kids' lives is awesome (because really, it is. they have the awesomest days. adam gets to run around buck naked eating apple slices, sam gets to go to science museums), the holidays don't *have* to be perfect. we don't have to save up the good for Christmas. every day is Good. that is helping my reframe my stress about "doing Christmas Right" a bit...
