Going Home

Aug 09, 2005 05:42

Okay, got myself fixed, hooray hooray. (I am ignoring any and all memories of what my other half did when I wasn't there. Save for one thing.) Andrew is aparently going to be joining me in L.A. after, and I quote, 'settling his affairs'. Whatever. Like he's got affairs to settle. But he can have a bit to get his stuff together, I'll go back to ( Read more... )

I come down the stairs from my room, head full of the information Melaka and I had gotten from the demons last night. I should run it by Faith, see if the name Kennedy means anything at all to her, but she's not there. Instead, I see Cordy.

"Hey, you're back!" I say, unable to suppress the grin that lights up my face. Actually, I almost go for a hug, but then I remember that she slapped me last time I saw her and she might not be up to hugging just yet. I couch and stratch the back of my head to cover. "How was your trip?"

I arch an eyebrow at that move. Was he going to hug me? Dork. I smile. A missed dork. "It was nice." I say. "I got to see England not from the inside of an Asylum, I got rich, and then went to the most heavenly spa ever. It was relaxing."

"Sounds nice. Well, except the asylum part, I've been there, you know. Well, not that it wasn't entertaining at the time..." I break off, figuring she really won't appreciate that train of thought. "And you missed most of the really unpleasant tension around here, which is another plus."

I go over and lean agains the counter, near her. "I've missed you around here. At least you always come right out and say when you're pissed off."

"Been playing a lot of the 'let's pretend nothing's wrong' game?" I ask, thinking that most likely that was the case. "Seems calm enough here for the moment...it even out?" I ask, watching him. He looks good. That's a plus.

I shrug. "Well, at least you were the half that got to go to the spa," I joke. "But I'm not sure we need someone on the team who would pull that sort of thing. Do we? I mean, can the guy actually fight?" I'm not liking the sound of Cordy getting all wrapped up in some other guy...again. Okay, that's unfair, she has her own life to live. But it's the good of the team I'm talking about.

I shrug. "He thought he was doing a good deed, actually. Knew I wasn't a demon when we were in high school, and thought I was posessed or something. I don't know." I set my coffee down. "Fight? Not really, but he knows a lot about demon stuff..obviously he'd have to know something if he managed to seperate me, and put me back, and spot it in the first place. Anyways, I figured we always could use help somewhere along the line, why not?"

Someone she was in high school with? Great. "So what, was he your hot date to the prom? Oh wait, no that was Wes, I was there for that." I eye her, wondering what exactly her interest in the guy is. And what demon Cordy did while she was spending all that time with this Andrew guy.

"Alright, I guess knowledge of demons is useful," I say warily, trying to be reasonable. "I mean, Wes is kind of an expert too, but I'm sure he could use the help."

I just know this is going to turn into something where I have to get her love potions or something again.

I don't answer, I just stare at him. I cross my arms over my chest, and keep staring. It's a level, solid Look.

"That's fine," I say, nearly gritting the words out through my teeth. "I'll make him feel welcome, trust me." Okay, so maybe my voice didn't make that last part sound very convincing. I go to get a fresh cup and pour another cup of coffee.

"So are you back-back? Like, want to be filled in on the whole situation? Or do you need some time to get settled first?" My voice is a little calmer now, business-like. I'll deal wih the whole Andrew business when he actually shows up.

I just barely keep in a laugh. He's fun to wind up. "Yes, I'm back-back. Hit me." I say, also settling into business. "What's going on?"

I come around the counter and go to sit on one of the stuff round benches. "Where to begin...Oz and Faith were out patrolling with Melaka while I was in Sunnydale checking up on London." I'm still a little miffed she didn't once come over while I was there. Too busy with Andrew, maybe.

"Anyway, they ran into some woman who got up in Faith's face and had a fight with her. Faith was really hot 'cause she seemed to know all about her and have it in for her. Oz went tracking her, but only as far as seeing her get into a car with some blonde and head toward Wolfram and Hart."

I take a sip of coffee before going on, "So last night, I ask Melaka if she wants to hit the streets with me, maybe scare up a little info in the demon dives. She shows me a building the woman burned out, in an area where pretty much just peaceful type demons live. So we find a couple guys in a bar who are willing to spill. The girl works for Wolframa dn Hart as a bodyguard, and she's not doing the jobs on contract. Just her little pet hobby."

I frown as I mill all that over. "So we have an indiscriminate killer of the cuddly demons out there, who has the backing of our favorite lawyers? Great. Have they been making any noise?" I ask, wondering if it's just the indirect connection, or if we've had more visits from cheerful suits who want to see us all dead.
