(edited comment) Yeah. Well. Um. This is why I'm a little (ok, a lot) meichel about fasting for 10Tevet and 17Tammuz and 9Av but am medakdeik about fasting for Tzom Gedalya. Because Jews are still killing Jews over politics and making an idol of Jewish sovereignty and the Land (which is why Gedalya was assassinated); but the destruction-of-the-Temple fasts should, IMHO, be feasts. Because we should be celebrating that despite our being so awful, G-d let us off so lightly.

and actually
i quote you on this often
because it is relevant every freaking year
and i am pretty sure you are right.

dunno what to make of the fact
that because it was kids
there is so much more outrage
than there would have been
had it been "just" adults.

i won't call it blessing in disguise, but
there was already a huge march that started
while the news was still first covering the shooting
there's a peace rally tonight
against hate crimes
and it seems
more rallies and gatherings planned
for monday and tuesday nights as well.

at least *some* good
is occuring.

personally
i want to go
dressed as the angels in the laramie project.

perhaps
this is like those jews
who burned the food stores in jerusalem
to force a war
and ultimately
the temple was destroyed
causing national mourning every year

or perhaps
this is like those jews
who assassinated gedalia

Word.

"We have this problem with Jewish disunity. Obviously the solution is for all Jews to unite around me!"
