Have your cake and eat it too

Such a weird saying. Why would you have cake if you weren't going to eat it?

I think... it means... like... you can't still physically HAVE a cake AND eat it too, which would effectively make you... not... have a cake... anymore.

I think.

I'm too tired to make much sense right now.

It's true. What the phrase is supposed to mean is that you can't have it sit looking pretty on the plate in front of you and eat it too. One prevents the other.

edit: Freudian slip. Wrote cake instead of plate. I want cake now...

I was going to tell you that there is a Mary-Kate and Ashley movie in which they debate the logic of that phrase, but then I realized that in order to do so, I would have to admit to watching Mary-Kate and Ashley movies, which is kind of embarrassing.

I pretty much just told you anyway, so whatever. NOT ASHAMED!
