The first line of this just broke my brain... that's the name of my TKD instructor! Right down to preferring Jimmy as a name. Ow ow ow.

Pretty sure. He doesn't disappear randomly although he occasionally misses a night of training because he has to work his day job... next time he tells us he has to be at school for conference night, I am going to choose to believe he's off being all government secretive instead. :)

I will say I turned my laptop around to show my husband the first line of your review and it amused him greatly, too. The funny part is I bet his name has been used in a book but I know it's not that one! (We have a dojang full of writers... I have had several variations of my name borrowed by my friend!)

Yeah, I think authors get to (a) introduce a whole bunch of new characters into an ongoing series or (b) set up major plotlines without making it clear that they are ongoing and will be resolved later, but not both. On top of all the consent issues in the book.

Yeah, I think she was trying to do too much in one place here. There were too many new elements being introduced, and the book felt like it was pretending they weren't new, which was just awkward.
