Wow... I am getting stuff done.
Tree's up and smelling fantastic... I've edited drastically from past years...things were getting out of hand. we're down to lights, angels, colored balls and stars. No more ribbons, gold beads, pearls and fruit as well... ;) Garlands are up around the house, and wreaths. presents are wrapped, except for the ones still not here yet. Rich will receive a new Jennair grill this year (family gift, really) and it arrives Friday. I got a new console for the LR today, and drafted three neighborhood boys (Corin and friends) to carry it in from the car. Poor things... I should bake them something.
I also mailed off "The Perfect Christmas Present" What, you may ask is "TPCP"? Well, my mother in law is now in assisted living, since Rich's Dad passed away three years ago. She sold the house, and is in a great situation, but she had to get rid of most of her accumulated furniture, etc... Mostly, no big deal: the stuff she loves came with her, and she has a lovely room furnished as she likes it. Unfortunatley, at the household breaking up, she forgot to label an ancient reproduction print as something she wanted to keep (btw, I think it's perfectly hideous. "Jesus the Good Shepherd" in pastels with wittle lambies) and it was probably thrown out. She has never ceased to say something everytime we look at an old photo showing the dining room where it hung in her old house. Lightening struck me upside the head this Thanksgiving when we visited and I heard it again: I've got photos of that print! I could copy them and blow them up ...or even... search the 'net and get a new copy! Which I did, bought it in poster form, framed it up, and sent it off today. I expect to get a "Daughter in Law of the Year" award this year.
Party prep is going forward. The freezer is stuffed, I don't know where I'll put anything else. I like being this far before hand with the world. Slowly the house will be cleaned. Thursday, Purple Heart Vets will pick up gleanings from the basement and the closets. Saturday we go to the Madrigal Feast and Sunday we drop in at Cindy's.
I really love the holidays. No matter how much I kvetch about cleaning and decorating, I just love the scents and traditions.
And the parties. I'm all about the parties
