Yeah she has a new Ephemera out and she's working on an urban fantasy series? Something like that. Though she apparently said that Daemonar wants to be in a story, but when he's older. So no clue. After the last, I'm not sure if I want to read anymore dealing with *that* generation. I'd rather read pre-original trilogy with Saetan, Andulvar, etc. Or more with the Shalador Nehele people.
The last collection of short stories fell off the back of a truck on the Information Superhighway and landed at my feet a few months ago...I read them, but I'll be damned if I could remember any of the details.
Could it be that we all fell out of love with the SaDiablos at once?
I didn't fall out of love. I still adore most of the main characters, but I think the moment she "went there" with Daemon and Surreal, it made me so sick to my fandom stomach that I haven't been able to go near that part of their lives.
And I tend to live in my happy little crossover world where Daemon and Jaenelle have their own daughter, Tersa's sane and whole with a daughter with Saetan, who is now completely alive... and yeah.
You know, Surreal was originally one of my favorite characters in the entire series, but as time went on and she became more and more of an author-surrogate, she just started to grate on me. She and Daemon worked beautifully together as partners; their skill, abilities, and mindsets complemented one another well. But it's a rare thing indeed for that to translate into a successful Relationship, and to suggest that Daemon would have happily-ever-after-shaped lightning strike twice in his admittedly long life seems far-fetched, even in fantasy.
I agree. And that's where it grated for me. Especially with what they named their daughter. Not to mention, that if he was willingly sleeping with other women, why was he not drinking a contraceptive brew? He couldn't guarantee *they* were, so why wasn't he? So that whole thing with Surreal falling pregnant on accident was just... no.
In my fandom happy mind, I always thought Rainier and Surreal were a good fit. In my head, Rainier was bisexual, just seemed to lean more towards men. Which is why I wrote a little fic where he explained to Surreal that it took the right kind of woman to draw him. I just... I never saw Surreal loving Daemon as a man- maybe a crush back before he showed her the Sadist, but I never envisioned that they had a romantic love of any kind. Ever.
