We have unfinished business.

I went to see Kill Bill today.

Kill Bill is quite possibly the most violent movie I've ever seen, at lest in terms of number of injuries/deaths, but not once does the violence ever feel gratuitous. In fact, with all the quickly severed limbs and geysers of too red blood, the gore took on an almost slapstick quality. The fight scenes beat the fuck out to The Matrix, Because (1) they are all done with practical effects, and (2) they make narrative sense. There's a reason The Bride is fighting these people beyond the fact that it looks really cool, whereas with The Matrix we have the "tea house fight" which looks awesome but ultimately has no bearing whatsoever on the story. I mention this because both films, or franchises rather, are drawing upon, and paying tribute to, the same set of influences. Tarantino succeeds where The Wachowski Brothers fail because he is the bigger geek, or at least he's better equipped to put his geekyness to good use. I can't wait for Vol. 2.

After the movie I decided to walk home. It was cold but not unbearably so, and I was listening to Death Cab For Cutie. Walking around at night with headphones is almost as good as driving around with the stereo blasting...almost.

The All American Rejects are stuck in my head. I don't want to like them, but I kinda do.
