Personality: When one sees Marceline for the first time, the first thought might be ‘punk rock chick’, and that would be correct. There’s more to this sexy vampire lady than first meets the eye though. Marceline’s been around for centuries, and these centuries have given her a fearless attitude and a love of adventure- which can come in handy when you spend long amounts of time in Finn’s company! It also helps when one of your favorite hobbies is travelling the land of Ooo, and her daredevil ways serve her well there. She’s also a prankster in her own right, who loves to play tricks on everyone including Finn and Jake; to date she has tricked Finn numerous times while he was acting as her helper, and she (with the help of several ghosts) pranked both Finn and Jake by making them believe she had turned them into vampires.
Even though she may seem more or less kind after one gets to know her, it’s getting past the rather abrasive shell that makes most steer well clear of her. Marceline’s known her share of heartache and her determination to make sure that no one hurts her like she’s been hurt before makes her seem a little unapproachable at times. She’s also very capable of holding a grudge- she held one against her father for years for eating her fries (a topic that inspired one of her songs), and though it isn’t seen at the start of the episode, we can safely assume that she held one against her ex-boyfriend Ash for selling her childhood teddy bear- though if she hadn’t before it’s also safe to assume she would after that episode for stealing her memory of their breakup and being more than a little disrespectful to her. That doesn’t mean she doesn’t want friends; she seems to have trouble saying it right out though. She pranks Finn in “Henchman”, getting him to hang out with her (and even save her from Jake’s attempts to save Finn), and in the episode “What Was Missing” sings a rather angry ballad at Princess Bubblegum that basically boils down to “I don’t know what I did to make you so mad at me but I’m not going to apologize first, even if I want to.”
With this attitude, genuine shows of affection and kindness are the best way to get her to let down her defenses- this has been proven multiple times. In “It Came From The Nightosphere”, Marceline’s grudge against her father ends when he apologizes after hearing her song “Daddy Ate My Fries” (though she still finds it easier when he’s not there). Finn proves he’s her friend in “Henchman” by saving her from Jake’s attempts to save him from her clutches. And in the most recent episode, “What Was Missing”, a rare blush is seen on Marceline’s face as Princess Bubblegum reveals that her precious possession was a shirt Marceline gave her. Her attitude shows again in her advice-giving, however, with a hint of savagery that might seem horrific to some- her advice to Finn on how to ask Bubblegum to a movie involved wrestling her, and in what I feel was a perfectly serious quip during “What Was Missing”, she tells the princess that the reason the Door Lords continue to roam and cause mischief is because they were allowed to live. How much of the Vampire Queen’s ruthlessness is real and how much is affected remains to be seen, however.

Abilities: Marceline is a multitalented vampire- and we’ll begin with her eating habits, the most important part. See, rather than being restrained to blood, like traditional vampires, Marceline has the ability to sustain herself by sucking the color red out of things. She is also musically inclined, able to play the bass guitar and sing a range of songs, from heartfelt ballads about her strained family relationships to angrier songs about her feuds with people. In addition, she is ambidextrous, and can play bass with either hand. She also has the abilities of levitation(which seems to be her preferred method of transportation), pyrokinesis, telekinesis, necromancy, and shapeshifting into numerous forms, including bat, wolf, monster, and more. She may have the ability to control how her hair moves, though some doubt could be cast on that as she continually has to push one lock of it out of her face. This may just be habit. She is also able to turn invisible.

Sample Entry: Marceline had found music- or more accurately a place to play her music and not feel like anyone would start freaking out on her for being a nuisance. Not that she cared, but she only had the axe bass here and if someone took it into their head to break it she wouldn’t be able to deal with it. She had grabbed the guitar, hauled it from the dormitory to the fourteenth floor of this crazy tower, and found herself a spot to settle in, strumming out a simple progression of chords and thinking up some lyrics on the spot.
How to pass the time
Stuck in a tower surrounded by monsters
How to kill time when there’s nowhere to go
I’m gonna find the cause, wanna reverse it all
Ready to go back to familiar nightscapes and scenes
Back to o--
Her head snapped up, eyes focusing on a TV that hadn’t been on when she came in. The static on the screen crackled, and something about the whole thing made the hair on the back of her neck rise. This was ridiculous, she’d seen much more frightening on Ooo. She’d become more frightening things on Ooo, for that matter. But she couldn’t get past the thought that that TV had been off two seconds ago. And-
“What is going on in this crazy place?!” Marceline sprang out of her chair as she saw the faintest outlines of a face, fighting down an instinct to transform and attack. She moved away from the set, but couldn’t escape the face, growing sharper in the static every second. There were limits, even for a vampire queen, and this had just passed every last one of them. She slung the bass over her back, and stalked out of the room, grumbling quietly under her breath. “I have to get out of this place, I didn’t live a millennia to die of freaked-out in a stupid tower.”
