look at all these papercuts (and all are in my heart)

Aug 27, 2011 22:10

Characters: Mami & Utena
Date: About a week or so after the event ends.
Summary: More awkward dream discussion.
Warnings: Likely some Madoka Magica and Utena spoilers.

[The look on Mami's face as she settles in front of the Vine is deceptively calm. It's not an unusual expression for a girl like her, by any means; the only difference today is the nature of the anxiety it hides. She needs to talk to Utena, and she must begin her attempt before she loses her (rather considerable) nerve.

For two almost-strangers to have gone so deep into each other's psyche and have encountered such surreal, disturbing, deeply personal things.....well, needless to say it made for a great deal of discomfort in the aftermath of it all. Utena was one of the many Mami had taken pains to avoid once the Gardens returned to normal. Yet because Mami had seen so much (and is far more kind than she lets herself realize), a stubborn concern has eventually overridden the ingrained impulse to maintain her distance. She's had enough time to lick her own wounds; there's no valid excuse to keep hiding.

The message is polite....but above all, private.]

Tenjou-san,

I hope you've been well since we last spoke. It's good that things have finally settled down around here, don't you think? However...given the unpredictable nature of our mutual prison, I believe that we should take advantage of this peace while it lasts. So while it might seem rude to bring this up so abruptly, I have an important request to make of you: I would like to discuss the events of the past few weeks. When are you available and where would you prefer to meet? My apartment is an option, just so you're aware.

- Mami Tomoe.

[Communicating her request by text seemed like the best way. No awkward meeting of eyes, no tremblings of tone. Should Utena accept, such things would come (all too) soon enough.]
