Fang used to fish, a very long time ago, and she hasn't lost the talent or the knowledge of it. So when she wanders over to the lake, it takes her a moment to figure out what the girl -- Pulsework? -- is doing. When she does though, she decides to speak up.

"You know, a fishing rod's the way most people do that." She grins. "Your way looks faster, though."

"Rod?" She repeats the word, tone faintly questioning. She has heard the word before-been told that's what most people use, even-but she cannot picture the object in question in her mind's eye. "I am unfamiliar with the tools generally used for fishing."

She looks down at the fish she has already collected, then back up toward Fang. "My problem solving algorithms determined this is the most efficient way to perform this task with the tools available to me."

"Yeah, a rod. It's a pole, with a bit of fishing wire attached, and a hook." The things people hadn't heard of here would never cease to confuse her. "You bait the hook with something for the fish, and when they bite, you reel them in." She glances out to the lake. "You could make one with the dirt, if you wanted to risk it."

And...whoa, those are definitely some complicated words happening. Fang tilts her head. "Right. So what are you fishing for anyway? This a hobby of yours?"

She glances downward and away from Fang, trying to visualize the object. That description is a little clearer to her, and though she's not entirely sure if she has the right idea, she at least has a better idea of the mechanics of the device. Eventually, she looks back up again and nods once, the movement slow but not hesitant.

At Fang's next words, she tilts her head ever so slightly. "Hobby?" There's a quiet moment while she searches for the meaning of the word-an activity or interest pursued for pleasure or relaxation and not as a main occupation-and then she shakes her head. "No. I am collecting fish for consumption."

Fang's mouth twitches at the corners at Lambda's answer, the barest hint of a smile. "All right. Are you gonna just eat 'em like that, or do you plan on cooking them? They might taste a little better if you did." She wonders if this person...Pulsework, whatever she is, can even taste things.

"I have data on the necessary preparation of lutefisk." She doesn't make any comment on Fang's remark about taste. Only being half-machine, she can taste things well enough, but it's not something that she links together with the idea of pleasure. Then again, she rarely thinks of her own enjoyment at all. Having fun is not something included in her directives.

That's another word Fang's never heard before, and she tilts her head, her amused expression shifting into one of open curiosity. "What's lutefisk? Never heard of it. Where I come from, we put fish in stews or roast it over a fire."

"Lutefisk is a dish made from dried whitefish prepared with lye in a sequence of treatments." Of course, being Lambda, she doesn't stop with that. Rather, she goes on to describe the recipe she's learned in a little more detail than is absolutely necessary. When she finishes, she pauses again, before noting, "My databanks contain no information on the proper procedure for stewing or roasting fish."

Fang pulls a face, makes a show of shuddering and running a hand through her hair. "Sounds terrible! People actually eat that?" She spares a glance over to the fish Lambda has collected. "You're missing out, then. Do you want to learn how?"

Behind her visor, Lambda blinks. "...Yes." She had meant the reply to be a simple answer to Fang's question, but her confusion leaks into her tone of voice nonetheless. She does not understand that reaction. When Fang asks her if she wants to learn, though, she responds with a slow nod. "Yes."

"Then I'll show you. Got nothin' better to do around this damn place." Fang surveys the area, hums under her breath. "You just stay put, all right? I'm gonna go find what we need to make a fire." And before waiting for a response, she trots off. This has to be the oddest thing she's done in a while, in that it's so ordinary. But the normalcy is somewhat comforting.
