With so many women in so many colors, all on the move on the dance floor or milling about the buffet, it was hard for her to focus. Normally red would have drawn her just fine, but she wasn't hungry; however, green and gold caught it this time. Her dress whispering behind her she walked up to the woman in question, an offering of a glass of punch pinned between her fingers. "Hey," She spoke in a half purr as she offered the glass, spilling none on her gloves. "Enjoying the party?" She was grinning like the cat that ate the canary from behind her mask. The mask and the wine made doing this all the easier.

"Some people aren't that good at sayin' what they feel," She gave Fionna's hand a reassuring squeeze, "-Parties aren't the only time that people just stand by and junk." Noticing the slight change in mood Marceline dropped her voice to a whisper, not wanting anyone to either embarrass Fionna publicly or have anyone over hear. "It doesn't mean that anythings wrong with you or that you're not a woman or some junk." By the end of what she was saying her lips were brushing Fionna's right ear. "You are as you are, beautiful and strong." She stopped talking for a moment, letting the music take over. "Don't live your ( ... )

The girl could help but smile a little. "Ya know, I can't help but think you're the sorta person who would sweep someone off their feet. It's not a bad thing, I'm just not used to be talked to as beautiful when I'm busy doin' something else. But trust me, even if I do gotta stay in the shadows, I'm still helping people. It's what I do."
Despite saying this though? She's actually dancing much closer to Crow lady.

The woman in red gave a laugh and a shake of her head, "Nah, not really!" Traditional Marceline, dodging really answering the question. She didn't think herself charming or even witty. "I actually get called a jerk a lot and make tons of stupid mistakes," She was only human (or something close to it) right? While they were talking Marceline had stopped paying strict attention to her feet, bit by bit the two women began to float up and off of the ground. Fionna was far from heavy so it wasn't any strain.
"After sayin' something like that, how can you not think that you're beautiful?" Closer just seemed more natural, even to Marceline. "You live to help people, something that most people are too selfish to do."

Oh nuts, what was happening now? Why were they floating?? She wondered now if that WAS Marceline, but then she thought that was silly. Marcie wouldn't be caught dead in a place like this, would she? And besides, why would she say any of this stuff to Fionna? "Nah man, I wouldn't call you a jerk," she said. "Maybe a little, um, impulsive? But I'm like that too. It's not so bad."
Darn it, she kept making her blush! "I'm ju-ust doing what needs to be done for people, that's all. Everyone needs help sometime. I'm just like anyone else."

Oh, there was no way that this was Marceline! Not a chance, right? Sure, there were those fiddly little details like similar speech patterns and the floating; however, the spinning of the world and free flowing drink would muddy those details into nothingness in no time. Marceline whoThe woman laughed again, gentler still. "Nice of you to say, but I know I'm a jerk." Blame the wine, she was opening up by the smallest of degrees herself. "Well, I can be! Impulsive is a pretty good word for it though ( ... )

The recent event with Sette was one of those touchy moments, where she had not though hard enough about what needed to be done.
Fionna shook her head. "I dunno if I'm going to believe that, unless you're a smooth talker that fools people. Otherwise, I'm just gonna think that you badmouth yourself as badly as I do, and that won't really help anyone. I think you're pretty neat."
She was really glad for the mask, even if it only covered so much. "I have those things, but I bet you do too. Like I said, those aren't too, you know, rare, and its what an adventurer has to be in order to look out for people. By the way, you are a really good dancer."

Senses and sensibilities were raw, that was the heart of the misunderstandings and misfortune that Fionna had come across so far. When your world is turned not only upside down but also inside out it is hard to gain or regain your bearings. It was an honest and rather small mistake that had become major somehow.
"I don't like hurting people," As much as she wanted to say 'peeps' the word kept evaporating, the mask playing doing it's job to obfuscate her identity. "-But I make a lot of mistakes that I don't own up for." That was the best that she could explain it, fairly honestly at that. "I think you're pretty neat too," again weak, but the words just came right out. "Guess we both have things to accept about ourselves ( ... )

Why was she saying all this? In fact, since when HAS Fionna been able to talk like this without using the Ooo way of speaking? It was a so strange, and really, this mask seemed to have a mind of its own somehow.
"In any case, I try to find the good in people, even here. I know I'm not the smartest person or anything, but I can still see when someone is trying to be good, and when they just try to hide it. Real goodness is something we can all be, we just have to believe it can happen!"
Ok, so she definitely sounded a little like Finn there.
"I'm ok, thanks," she said, smiling. "What should we do now though?"

"If you can see the good through the bad that is pretty cool, you know? Again with trying to make a point and maybe direct the conversation away from any questions about herself. Something had struck Marceline as familiar; however, as suddenly as the thought was there it was gone. Since dancing was done Marceline lowered back to the floor, setting Fionna on her feet. "There's supposed to be fireworks or something, right?"

Yup, close.
Fionna was pretty done with dancing, although she'd definitely had a good time: they were getting some looks, and maybe it had something to do with Fionna wearing her hair out. But at the mention of fireworks (not involving a monster, party Pat and raving bears) she welcomed the opportunity.
"Excellent, let's go!" She said, taking the girl's hand.

Some girls did become close, the kind of close where you swapped bodily fluids and shared their feelings. The kind of close that was, in general (gender aside) alien to Marceline. Yeah, closeWhile dancing all night was an option there were other things to see and do, it would be a shame to miss out on any of them. For the first time they were attending an actual festive gathering, no candy people doing silly things or wacky occurrence. They were able to just enjoy each other's company and the ball itself. Before she knew it Fionna's hand was in her own and she was squeezing it, leading her away from the dance floor. "I ( ... )

As for girls getting that kind of close, Fionna had little to no opinion on that. If you were really meant to be with a person, you just were and it happened. How and why was always the big question.
And naturally, Fionna wasn't the type of girl to be satisfied with ground level fireworks. She scanned outside, looking for the tallest tree and, finding it, set to scaling the thing with relative ease. Aside from a few panty shots, Fionna was glad she chose this dress: a ballgown would have been torn to shreds.

So someone was pretty confident in their floating abilities (seriously, this could not be Marceline, but she had to remember to try and find out who else floated like that). Of course, Fionna had not known how much of her had been showing, nor would she have cared much. They were all just girls anyway, so it wasn't a big deal, right?
This was the kind of thinking that brought people like Kanako around.
A lift? "No, thank you. That looks cool but I want to scale this myself, like a true lady."
Yes, she knew that was ironic, but that didn't stop her from reaching the top.

Well it wasn't so much the thinking about panties and hooking up that caused people like Kanako to come around. It was panties shown without a worry or care in the world that did! Fionna would be a one girl show right about now. "Hey," Marceline stopped in mid air and laughed, "That's pretty bad ass!" Yeah, the mask didn't catch that one! Some parts of Marceline's personality were just too strong to suppress, like the fact that her tongue slipped rather easily.Like a stone the lady in red fell! The tree shaking as she latched onto it and started to climb herself, more like a spider than a monkey.
