I think we can all say that by "I'll post again real soon" I meant next month. Because I'm a total toolbag like that. Although I don't want that to be a habit. I will be rid of it soon.
First, something I've been wasting my doodle time on this month. I copied a real French apartment building's facade. If my source is telling me the truth, it should be near Champs-Elysees.
I'm a total jerkface sometimes. I couldn't help it because it was so so perfect.
Then Mr Cheval had to go and ignore it.
Okay, let's move on now.
Something from 2008 while my brother was still in Paris. It pretty much sums up our relationship.
I HAVE FAILED YOU LING /sob
I may or may not have fallen for France.
I'm stil planning to redraw this because I did not do justice to his face. Zut.
These mem'ries we'll recall...these mem'ries we'll recall...
So...okay...the whole time I was drawing this, I could hear a haunting voice of a child singing the Paulinian hymn in my head. Like a kid who died in a deep well and all that. At 12 AM. It felt inexplicably appropriate for some reason even though it was completely involuntary.
I feed off Envy's pain. It entertains me greatly.
WARNING: IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN INCEPTION AND DO NOT WISH TO BE SPOILT, DO NOT READ BELOW THE LINE.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why I'm disappointed with Inception:
1. It completely bypassed the great potentials of this brainchild, and I don't just mean that financially.
1.a. If you've been following me on Twitter, you might have come across me ranting about why Inception wasn't in 3D. Now I know a lot of you are going to complain saying that 3D is so overrrated and such and such. I agree; 3D should only be kept with some movies and I think Inception is one of them. The idea of the movie was dreams. The point of the 3 layered dream was actually to confuse the audience in the long run and how do you do that? By submerging them into the dream, hence 3D. It would have been a redeeming factor for the movie especially because they allotted some time on the effects.
The best scene with 3D would have been the anti-gravity part. Seriously.
1.b. The brains in the story. How did they infiltrate dreams? At least a small framework would have been okay. It wasn't even explained to Ariadne, the newbie of the team who also happened to be the new architect. The whole thing ended up as more of a guessing game than an actual intellectual movie. It's asking you so solve for the limit of x without any given equation. Ugh.
1.c. They did not show a successful regular dream intercepting mission. That would have shown an actual difference to what they were doing in the rest of the movie.
2. Pacing and time management.
2.a. Did anyone think that the pacing was a bit quick in the first part where they explained Cobb's back story? Really? I think so too. It could have been done a lot better had they given it more time. It really went of with a bad start.
2.b. Where could they have gotten the time to extend that part? Remember at the ending where they had this supposedly artsy part where they give each other knowing looks in slow motion? They could have shaved off some minutes from that really long and pointless montage, I mean seriously, who wants ten minutes of them looking at each other?
3. Casting. I only have one problem, which is Leo di Caprio. He did not fit well in the character because all I saw throughout the movie was a man doing a lip wibble. Acting also means voice acting--why do you think Johnny Depp got this far? His voice was a totally whiny teenager, like he didn't fully go through puberty.
4. Technical problems. I can neglect it, but since I'm complaining anyway, might as well put the whole shebang into it.
4.a. The part where they were supposed to wake up once they hit the railing and go into free fall but they didn't do well in the 2nd layer so they had to go for the 2nd free fall which was in the water. If I understood this right, waking up was supposed to be an involuntary reaction to free falling. Why did they not wake up when they went into the first free fall? What the hell?
4.b. I cannot understand how Cobb was able to go to limbo to save Saito. If he did have that much experience, then why were they so afraid of the gunmen in the dream? Good ol' Cobb can fish them out of limbo anyway.
4.c. Just who the hell is Eames and why is he on the team? Back story or at least a small intro would do--especially something that elaborated his credentials. If there was an introduction, then that meant they didn't give this character enough justice.
4.d. Why would Saito hire someone to do something innovative when he can't even do a regular mission properly? That's just stupid. And definitely not how Asian businessmen work.
4.e. For someone who did not have any experience in the job, Ariadne coped pretty fast with the concept.
4.f. That part with making gravity by dynamite was awesome. And John Gordon Levitt looked very nice in that suit. Wait, this isn't a complaint.
Overall, with the expectation I had when I saw the trailer, this was a flop for me. Definitely one of Mr Nolan's rushed works. He could have invested more time in such a brilliant idea because I know he could have made it better judging from his track record.
In summary:
And just so you can't say that I have particular bad feelings about this whole thing...
NEVER LET GO!!!
That's all. Now got back to homework before you dishonour famiry. >8(
